It still does annoy me that the club ended up in a position where we weren't at a good enough level to keep a once in a generation homegrown player, and the player felt they had to go down the road to United to win things. That's what I'm getting at but most world stage clubs keep their diamonds until their sell by dates loom. The stars we've had nicked is incredible.....but sadly it's money so maybe still the same?

Rooney leaving was one of my earliest memories of football despair as a 9 or 10 year old.

If it was the 80’s maybe we were in a position to keep him, in the 2000’s it was decent money and he wanted trophies, I never was annoyed at the club for not being able to keep him.

He’d be gone. Maybe not as quick as last time though. The summer he left didn’t we finish 17th? He went on to have a great Euros as well. Was only going to end one way.

Would we as a club be able to fend of the poachers this time around. Last time Man Utd. wanted him and they got him, leaving me gutted and dejected.

Would our new board/setup/Manager allow that to happen now if a gem like him came through the ranks?

I'd love to think the answer was no, that would be true progression.

I feel with agent's appetites only becoming more avaricious and rooney being an extraordinarly gifted but a malleable and ambitious rube it would unfortunately be a similar outcome. Super Agents like Mino would exploit him to the fullest and would be shopping him around everywhere.
