If we go down, how do you start the rebuild?

The sliding scale is the parachute payments.
We have to comply with the EFL rules. We have been massively overspending against the PL rules. We will be catastrophically over the EPL rules. Fire-sale required or we will be hit with a points deduction.

The 180m wage bill was based with Digne and Hamaz on the books. I think with Delph, Sigurdsson, Tosun out of contract and the sale of the likes of Gomes, Allan, Pickford, Richy our wage bill would drop dramatically.

This!
If/when we go down this lot should be run out of town and torn to shreds by the media - in the same way the Glazers are daily, the same way Hicks and Gillette were but they won’t be. They’ll get away with it and blame this on unprecedented injuries, poor officiating or even Covid!! They’ll do what ever they can to deflect the blame from them. And as you say, as long as these clowns are at the top making decisions, we’ll be run like a circus.
Will be the fans fault

Nothing will change for the better until Kenwright and his crony appointments are gone.

Whether we stay up or go down, this board will continue to oversee a nonsensical recruitment strategy that is only compounded by a pitiful commercial performance.

Begovic
Patterson Branthwaite ?? Mykolenko
Warrington Price Davies
Gordon Simms Dobbin

Give us a battling young side that we can build an identity with

And Jobi Mcanuff off the bench, of course.
Think you need a bit of experience in as well. Godfrey and Doucoure would add that, as would Gray.

Davies is exactly one of the players we need to be losing, not keeping IMO.

Relegation (particularly with THIS squad) really doesn't bear thinking about.

The thing is, as we all know, we do have some decent "individual" players, who all just happen to be mis-matched into the wrong team. And let's face it, those players will be offski if we were to get relegated, 100%. (I.e. Pickford, Patterson, Mina, Branthwaite, Godfrey, Mykolenko, Doucoure, Richarlison, DCL, Gray, Iwobi, Gordon.) Ideally you would hold on to those players but it's not realistic or financially viable. Then you have those who will be departing one way or the other (I.e. Alli, Gomes, Gbamin, Allan, Tosun).

That would leave us, alarmingly, with those individual players who are genuinely so awful (i.e. Kenny, Keane, Holgate, Delph, Davies, Rondon, Simms etc.) whom no other team will want, and they will then say that considering their "vast PL experience", the drop down to the "Championship level" should be enough to justify them earning contract-renewals.

What. A. Genuinely. Depressing. Thought.

We'd only be able sell Pickford, Richy, DCL, Dacoure and maybe Allan will go back to Italy.
What ever they are worth knock 50% off and that's closer to the money will get.

The likes of Holgate, Keane, Delph, Gbamin well he stuck with, teams arnt going to buy them or if they would they wouldn't pay anywhere near the wages we pay them so they might.refuse.to move.

Delph is out of contract so we won't be stuck with his wages and Gbamin is currently playing for another team so we could probably loan him out again to shed his salary at a minimum.

I'd go with a mix of youth and experience, we need to consolidate and not get ahead of ourselves thinking we're good enough to make the playoffs.

Lonergan

Phil Bardsley
Sol Bamba
Branthwaite
Nkounkou

Gordon
Davies
Will Hughes
Tom Ince

Rondon
Ellis

Width and pace in the midfield with two battering rams up front, try to bully our way to championship survival and build from there.

That team would struggle in League 1 let alone the Championship

Said this a while ago. Probably 2 years ago before any relegation talk.

The overarching strategy to the playing side of things has been a mess since Moshiri came in. Those chickens will come home to roost from a financial perspective also if relegation does happen (i don' think it will happen btw).

The issue we have is wider attention of this by the media. Unless we go down, when it'll be too late, the failings of the current regime just aren't headline news in the wider media. Living outside of Merseyside I just don't see a concerted focus by the national media on these issues. Talking with fans of other clubs it just isn't on their radar as a big story. It might be if relegation happens. Before then considerably less so.

Why does this matter? You'll only really get momentum for change if the media get behind things and it galvanises the supporter base as a collective to initiate protest for change. Loads of individuals will know the score and potentially want to provide the basis for some sort of protest or movement. Reality is that you need weight in numbers and getting to that tipping point will need media attention to get some fans on board. People will easily be distracted by blaming the issues on more trivial matters like DCL's fashion shoots, officials or a manager. who has been dealt a very short straw.
