i fail to believe that, but brilliant if true.

surprised that city and arsenal would be ahead of liverpool like. see rats everywhere wearing their socks and shin pads.

So say you were in Everton's business/marketing department - what would you do to raise the profile of the club? What sort of strategies would you employ to take Everton from best of the rest/second club in the city to a major force? Do you think it requires silverware/huge on pitch investment?

I think I'd start by employing a few social media specialists to engage the community - Evertonians and non via Twitter/Facebook/Youtube. The key would be to identify the major draws of the Everton brand probably history and tradition, but the school of science and people's club lines are good selling points as well.

Just a fun thought exercise. A way to think proactively about areas the club can improve off the pitch.

Second club in the city ? To who ?

Off with his head !!!

Well, Rog Bennett's USMNT doc on ESPN just raised our profile a bit last night. Thanks to the Mets/Dodgers game going long I missed half, but not the segment with Tim Howard. Remarked on his 12 year PL run, longest of any American. Some shots of Goodison, and this:

"Everton is my club. The club that I love, that I will always love. Everton Football Club means everything to me, it's my heart and soul. To be an Evertonian, to be loved by the fans, and to give that love back, it is brilliant. And if they're singing 'USA!' it means I've done something good, so that works as well."

Rog on the MiB pod talking about this 30 for 30, "the gratuitous shots of Everton Football Club that are all over the episode have nothing to do with the fact that I helped..."

It is that simple. Put an Everton shirt with Donovan on it or one with Howard on it in a shop window and they would sell.
Americans love an underdog. Give them a club that's operating within it's means, a club going up against Arab and Russian money, trying to play fair in an unfair world blah blah, christ, you couldn't make this stuff up. Do a Rocky type trailer, now if only someone at the club knew Stallone!

I take back everything I ever said, put shirts in the shops and they will be bought!

It's funny, I lived in Boston in 1998, when france were hosting, four years after the US hosted and had their best finish. I would say 2 out of 10 people knew it was on and less than 1 in 10 actually cared. We had to watch Mexican TV for most of the games, even the ones on US TV because the American commentary was beyond bad. 16 years later 8 out of 10 know it's on and the amount who care about it is waaay up. No more watching Mexican TV. Come August, and with NBCs second season of coverage on the back of a world cup that will be in the same time zone, the hype for the next premier league season will be huge, and Everton need to be well placed to make the most of that off the pitch, as of yet, they are not.

Interesting to see how the club has failed so far to make the most of what happened in the world cup with Tim Howard and to an extent Bobby doing punditry too. Should've been our oppo to push into the American markets and make inroads. Still think that the doco would be a good idea, end up striking while the iron is still burning hot in the US.
