Improving Everton's Profile

Amusing that as this discussion about raising profile has taken off, someone on FB posted up this pic of a Subway (metro, not 11' foot long sammich shops) from last summer, when the Toffees friendlied in America.

He responded to me on twitter:
@davidgibb88 I would love to do an Everton doc. like being asked to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel

Then favorited my link to this topic, so hopefully he has a read.

Anyone on twitter should go on and retweet the crap out of it and comment themselves.

Had a twit account for months, but have never posted a single tweet. lost my "cherry" in support of this.

Brilliant! It strikes me that this type of project might be much more amenable to crowdfunding than a stadium. One misperception about Americans in general, that has been eloquently dispelled in this thread, is that we only love "winners." Though that might be true of some segments of Americans, the overwhelming majority of us are programmed from an early age to glorify the rags to riches underdog story. In fact, the Everton story is more than perfect for an American audience because its more of a "riches to rags and a rise back to riches story after a fall." Everton has everything for us, storied history with great success, a grievous fall from grace and a long slow hard-fought fight against overwhelming odds to reclaim glory. We are so ready for this!

If proof was needed mate about that, the history of American cinema has been built upon the rags to riches, underdog story being a staple due to its popularity

This is an idea that would be brilliantly served not put to the PR or marketting departments but instead by passing them if they show no interest, Martinez regulary does his meet the fans thing, he talks up the history and knowing that being important, the idea should be pitched to him directly in a structured way during one of those, honestly i can see the idea really catching on with him and him becoming a catalyst to get something like this done, hell he is even working in the US this summer on the world cup, what better way to actually make contacts who would get this done.

Some amazing and visionary ideas in this thread, one story that should be known throughout the game imo is the story of the life and death of Catterick, its poignant and a great piece of our history his building of two great sides, him having to leave us due to ill health and ultimately his death whilst actually watching his play. Never mind the fact his tactics were twenty years ahead of his time.

Their is so much potential their in stories untold and unknown to the world at large, all it takes is someone with the vision to take these parts of our history to a wider audience.

Our story alongside the rs's their effects upon us through the ban, the attempted stealing of the cities symbol as their own, the re writing of history by the British media to portray us as in their shadow since the dawn of time, hell even the erasing of catterick in favour of glorifying shankly alone on a pedestal. The losing of our original home and thus their creation etc i know which one an American would root for given the full picture of the history and its not them like

Have people in charge of Everton's profile who are capable of improving it. Incompetence of the middle management is tolerated by senior management. Incompetence of senior management is tolerated by the directors and owners.

I'd be patient if it was a work in progress but fourteen years on it's still the same story. Poor decisions and planning succeeded by some more poor decisions and planning.

Good decisions have been taken on the manager of the football team which has kept the wolves from the door luckily for them. A good decision was made on the Communications Director last summer. He lasted not long on the inside which backs up what I've heard from people who've experienced it too.

And of course Everton to start winning things again which is related to the above and finding someone to put the money into the club that it needs.
This is of course the biggest worry. But, let's be fair, we love Everton. Everton is what matters to us - not the people in charge. So if they aren't willing to do what's best for the club, should we jib them off and watch our beloved club suffer? Or should we try and do something about it? Give them the ideas and methods on a silver platter - as a gift to the club, not the management, but to Everton.

If they fail to act then, I think people will find the fanbase on the whole much more amenable to more drastic methods to improving the club.

I refuse to accept that the management hate Everton enough to actively root against their own success. This only helps them - if we succeed in raising the club profile - they make more money! Or can sell it for whatever valuation they have in their head, whatever. It's win-win - unless we'd rather self-harm by letting Everton wallow as an also-ran hoping that the board decide to sell up.

I'm not being patient either. I'm trying to get some action going. Let's show them the path - if they refuse to follow it, then the Bill-out brigade has better ammunition, and if they do follow it, we're all happy.

Forza Everton.

(The Myers thing still leaves a bad taste in my mouth, he was brilliant for the club)

Well, Rog Bennett's USMNT doc on ESPN just raised our profile a bit last night. Thanks to the Mets/Dodgers game going long I missed half, but not the segment with Tim Howard. Remarked on his 12 year PL run, longest of any American. Some shots of Goodison, and this:

"Everton is my club. The club that I love, that I will always love. Everton Football Club means everything to me, it's my heart and soul. To be an Evertonian, to be loved by the fans, and to give that love back, it is brilliant. And if they're singing 'USA!' it means I've done something good, so that works as well."

The Dodgers shirt that Ped is wearing in the Toffee TV discussion is a perfect example of missing merchandise/branding. You can get shirts like this for $25/£15 for almost every team in the US. I'm sure the club has done something like this in the past (Nike's heritage gear is very nice), but this should be a mainstay of the club shop. These sales compliment kit sales, they don't detract from them.

And more regarding profile:

Everton have climbed the league table for the most valuable brands in world football, according to Brand Finance, who release this type of table each year.
According to the company’s website, Everton have climbed from 33rd most valuable brand in the world, to 20th, ahead of clubs such as AS Roma, Valencia, and Sevilla, while sitting just one place behind Spanish champions Atletico Madrid.
Brand Finance calculates brand value using the Royalty Relief methodology which determines the value a company would be willing to pay to license its brand as if it did not own it. This approach involves estimating the future revenue attributable to a brand and calculating a royalty rate that would be charged for the use of the brand.
The company claims that Everton’s value has leapt from $78m to $121m over the last 12 months, perhaps in no small part down to the increased TV revenues received, but also due to the more attractive brand of football on display at Goodison

i fail to believe that, but brilliant if true.

Boss that video, first time i've seen it. Lot of respect for Ped after he got a kicking off Ian Ross which was bang out of order. Well in Peter.
