Improving Everton's Profile

Multi exposure where there's mass viewing audiences who are easily influenced......and a lashing of the one thing that always sells...sex.

So, get a gaggle of fit birds into Big Brother, Dancing on Ice, The X Factor, BGT and Coronation Street, all in the new kit ( after July of course), tatted up with the new crest and then doing a synchronised strip to reveal 10% off everything in the Everton Store.

Piece of pish this marketing strategy.

It's a big, and difficult (ask Lerner) task, but no doubt this can be done. I think all of these have been previously commented upon, but here are the areas that seem important to me:

1. Handling the media. Martinez does this well, but the club as a whole needs to step with him. He can't (and won't) challenge everything, but the club should insist on being "in the conversation." If Tottenham can be mentioned in every discussion, no reason Everton shouldn't be discussed also.
2. History of the club, especially the club's image (i.e., School of Science) and achievements (honors and the "firsts")
3. Promotion by big names: past and present. This includes keeping the young talents and parading the greats. And this should include promotion including past and present players prominent in other areas (Cahill, Donovan & Howard, the Irish lads)
4. Availability of merchandise (both ease of access and type of product). There are plenty of people making Everton related stuff (like this); certainly there is a way to market them in a collective way without much difficulty (maybe GOT should consider a page devoted to merchandising links?)
5. Pre-season tours and European play and
6. TV-time; butts in seats (whether live, TV, or streamed) is how brands get big
7. New honors

Some of these are easier to affect; some more difficult. But all are required.

That toffee art site is great. Had never heard of it before......

Within the club's control:

A change in shirt sponsor would be good. We've had Chang for years now. Any positives that partnership brings have been and gone now. Everyone who is going to discover us through Chang already has. We'd do well to move onto an American brand next.

Actually disagree with this for the most part. Not that I wouldn't love to see an American sponsor, but sponsors are sheep and follow success. It's up to the team to create, expand, and promote its audience. The sponsors then willingly follow.

Crowdfund a new stadium. There have been quite a few large (ie $100m+) projects funded via the crowd in recent years, so why not a stadium? On The House Crowd, the average investor in a property shells out just over £3,000, so on that basis we'd need around 60,000 backers to build a new stadium.

The fans own the stadium, and rent it back to the club. Would give us that new facility we dream of plus give us a whole lot of exposure into the bargain.

I've been thinking the same thing but the numbers don't really stack up for investors unless you make the season tickets start at £800 per season and even then it doesn't leave much for the club.

One idea to raise the profile of the club would be to commission a documentary telling the history of the club.

How we were the first to play at Anfield, the first to have a proper stadium and floodlights.

Tell them how we've overcome the adversity of being champions before both world wars and the European ban.

Then there's the great players, Dean, Sagar, Young, the Holy trinity, the 80's side and one of the greatest goalkeepers or all time.

How we battle today against the financial odds and play beautiful school of science football.

All narrated by Tim Howard.

NBC, ESPN even Sky would put that on.

Anybody know any documentary makers? If so, let's make it happen.

We need a company that are massive in USA and are looking to expand over here. Getting premier league sponsorship would be a massive boost and we would offer far greater value for money than most. In exchange, we would get free exposure in USA where English footie is becoming more and more lucrative.

We need to replace Roberto with the peoples princess Chezza Cole, that will increase our profile. Also change the names of our stands to people from one direction, get the directioners on our following the crazy batshit gets.

Not likely, but here is my shout:

Purely personal preference because I like their brews.

I don't even think it's 'becoming'. NBC has done such an amazing job this year I wouldn't be surprised if what they paid turns out to be a great deal for them. I think the premier league is one of(if not the) fastest growing sports in America. Me mate hats football but already picked a team and started watching it.

The U.S.is key. The money is there, there's no reason why this club shouldn't be larger in the states than it is.

You know, besides the board that doesn't release the new kit until halfway through the summer..

It's been hit on here.

Make merch more available... If you want to be a global brand, your products should be available globally. I should be able to walk in to a Champs Sports and see EFC kits right alongside the other clubs. I get needing to order 1860 Munich stuff straight from the club, they're "small" and Bundesliga2... but not a Euro-bound team in the Premier League. Their marketing footprint should reflect their stature.

And better merch. At least in regards to T-Shirt designs. 1860 Munich had a couple cool t-shirts. When looking for an EFC one to pad my order for free shipping, nothing. They have obnoxious shirts (with your surname) that still mention Pnut and Jelavic... Something as simple as a royal blue t-shirt that says "EVERTON" across the front, and the badge or Rupert's Tower on the back would be great.

At least EFC has some cool key chains.

In regards to social media, again growing the brand - America is the best market to crack. We're finally starting to catch on, NBC's coverage has been stellar (NBC broadcast ALL the matches of the final weekend simultaneously, turning over their other networks - a la USA, Bravo - to the PL)... Everton has had good ties to American footballers, particularly now with Timmy. Maybe have their social media director - or intern or someone - make a point of creating a social media page on the website that includes links to Everton fan clubs abroad.

We all know what you lads do. Hit the pub, "we go game". Do something to bring in the American and other abroad crowds, and make it visible. If I'm a PL noob checking out PL homepages (via NBC's page) trying to find which team I should support, would be awesome to see a page on EFC's site with a list of American Everton supporter clubs and their activities. Some interested party sees when & where US Evertonians meet, might pop by and get welcomed to the fold.

I'm Ameri-centric just because I am a Yank and we are a late arrival to the party, but undoubtedly the same approach could be done in other markets as well. Just thinking with our size, population, and spending habits, we are low-hanging fruit... and thanks to isolation, haven't been infected with Sky 4 + Citeh disease as badly as other parts of the world.

And it would show how big the EFC family is.

One of the things that I love about Everton is that its a family club.
If the OS had a Part of the site dedicated to the "Everton Family", where it had links to everything from local and regional supporters clubs through to fans forums and Everton related websites and so on, that would help promote this, and I'm sure that people would buy into this.
Do a weekly exposure on the main site about events with the different supporters groups.
We also need a documentary of some kind, even one on the glory teams of the pasts in the 60s or 80s, Dixie Dean, Everton being the first club in many things leading innovation.
Oh and bin Kitbag, that too, the availiability of any Everton stuff is a right pain, and limits our exposure and growth as a fanbase and club.

Buy Romelu Lukaku and make him and Barkley our icons.

This is the answer. You can do all the marketing in the world but investment and big name players = success, which will raise your profile.
In the last decade both Chelsea and Man City have gone from zero to hero doing just this. I went to a pre-season game in Thailand last yr and there were 70,000 people at the ground to watch Chelsea play the local XI.

This is why the club should spend the 15m needed to buy a player like Alexandre Pato.

I think buying Lukaku or a signing considered big by other fans and not selling anyone important this season and staying towards the top 4 next season will be heading in the right direction. I see this as possible as well which is very exciting.
