In all seriousness, this derby record: WTF are we going to do about it?

They've spent over a billion pounds since the PL began. A BILLION. although we should theoretically have, even by chance, beaten them more often it's hard to compete with that spending power.

Funny how they moan about the spending power of city and Chelsea. They've been the big spenders in my opinion considering they've never won the league.

They have been amongst the biggest spenders in the league, yet they have gone nearly 30 years without winning the league title.I think Liverpool are living proof, that spending money is no guarantee of success. You have to spend it wisely.

As far as I can make out a 16 game sequence without a win is a club all time low. Seven years without a win. It's beyond embarrassing. Yes there's been draws and near misses, but it's pathetic. And that game yesterday, scabby penalty or not, we were second best.

If we'd hung on there last night I was confident we could finish them off at GP. We now have the Goodison derby left to try and put this atrocious record in the bin. Each season that goes by without us doing it though is going to make it even more of a monkey to get off our backs.

I cant think of a top-flight city rivalry as lopsided as our derby. They have more resources traditionally and, of course they have the officials weighing in for them, but that doesn't explain this phenomenon. The players just haven't been mentally up to it. That's true. But also our supporters expect it and they transmit that, so a draw is almost seen as our players' pre-derby target.

I'm completely mortified by this seven year record. More should be made of this and pressure heaped on our playing staff that a draw every other game or so is just not acceptable. Liverpool are the low-lying fruit of the PL elite too. It's not like they are untouchable in the last seven years.

As said in the thread title: what is to be done here? How does this run end and what do we need to do?

I had similar thoughts this morning. I'm absolutely sick of them beating us. Could it simply be that they tend to have a better side and on top of that they raise their game against us? We are very unlikely to catch them on an off day.

Truth is the only way to beat them is to remove the inferiority complex we have with them. Simple as that

We lose before a ball is kicked, we celebrate crap and then wonder why we can't beat them?

How many posters on this site were happy with the 1-1 a month ago? How much better they were than us and how we robbed them and wound klopp up in the process?

Case and point. We played crap, we were terrified of them as if we were coming out of the conference and was made up to get a lucky point despite the fact the only reason we never got hammered is because they treated us like a training ground session.

There isn't any pride in the club anymore, 4-0 defeats are treated as the norm, a point at anfield is treated like a good result. Nobody really cares anymore, it's just another win for them, just another defeat for us.

My first derby was 1994. We were bottom of the league or thereabouts, we only just stayed up the year before and just sacked the manager and brought Joe royle in. We were in a complete mess, very much like we have been this season. Except we turned up that night and played with passion and pride, we wanted to beat them. Where was that a month ago?

It's embarrassing, I stopped caring a long time ago because nobody else at the club truly cares about it.

We played them in 2012 semi final and last night's cup tie, 14 league and 2 cup.

Yes, I know the current awful stats.

I was trying to work out which "record" they had broken....but thought they were on 16 last night and that victory extended the run to 17 and a new record.

But now I see the previous record was 15 and it was indeed the awful run we had from 1971 through 1978 :(

Which was 13 league games, the Clive Thomas and the replay that ensued.

We should have beaten them in Moyes's last Anfield Derby.

We had a perfectly good goal chalked off for offside.

Then this "record" woukd have been choked off at an early stage.

Moyes himself beat us with his decision to Park the bus at Wembley when we were a goal up and had them on the ropes at half time.

They were there for the taking as well. Never forgive him for that

I'm going to get in shape. I'll be going for a jog this afternoon.
