"Is David Moyes Really As Good As People Make Out?"

Players aren't stupid (mostly) and its their career at stake. If they genuinely thought Moyes was endangering their health they would leave or at least not publicly support him. This whole arguement is ridiculous and grasping at straws if you ask me.

If there was any truth in it I'd think it would be that Moyes just pushes them that bit further. And over time this could have an adverse effect, which is why I was more keen to see later statistics.

In all likelihood it's probably not a big factor, but I thought it merited discussion and didn't deserve to be laughed off immediately. It's a fact that Moyes pushes players hard in training. I think I remember reading something on here about a player saying that Moyes used to push players so hard in pre-season that they'd end up vomiting.

Yeah fair enough mate I see why it was being discussed but I just think there is a difference between being pushed and causing harm. Im sure many others on here like me were beasted to the brink in military training but if I actually thought the instructors were going to cause me serious injury I would have spoke up. I also realise that Michael Ball for one would probably not think it unlikely.

Some good reading this thread, complete with popcorn and a Sprite.

I saw someone defend another Everton manager earlier due to the injuries that manager had to his players. Fair comment but surely, and I mean surely Moyes would deserve that same defense in several of the years he's managed.

I love how people come on here and post a clear windup under the guise of "well it's my opinion."

Well guess what? Your opinion would be wrong and if you insist on sticking to it and trying to make a case about how (insert very good player's name here) is a very bad player, you won't find yourself tolerated on here for long. Other forums might put up with that crap but we don't.

Fact based opinions are welcomed and encouraged. Windups aren't.

I'm sure those posters were talking about how poor Fellaini was when he was pretty much singlehandedly carried us.

I'm no troll but if I were David Moyes, I'd have a pretty good idea as to whom I would sell, and I highly doubt Moyes would agree with me personally, because half of the players I'd sell now are his favourites.

I mean, I respect the man, he's done a great job, but he's got some serious failings that appear to be biting him on the arse big time now.

Anywho, I'm hoping this cup game will be a good one. Granted, I'm not overly optimistic about it, but I'm hoping we'll actually show some guile and a bit of flair. And some testicular fortitude.

(edit) testicular fortitude going forward.

Show some aforementioned testicular fortitude man and tell us who you'd sell.

Alright then.

Cahill. Arteta. Rodwell. Anichebe. All would be gone. Yobo is basically gone, and being honest, I'm torn between Heitinga and Jagielka. I mean, Jagielka gets us the most money, but he's the superior player of the two and is cheaper to keep around as far as I know.

If, and that's a big if, these players were sold, I'd honestly replace them within the squad, or with youngsters, but we'd seriously need to bring in at least one winger either on loan or permanently.

Now bear in mind, I am not Mr Moyes. I wouldn't stick to this 4-5-1 philosophy as he does, and there are lots of things Moyes does that I'd do differently, so do not slate me for my opinion. This is simply what I'd do.

I'd still like to see us shoot more though.

Although to be fair, I'd also be happy to see Arteta out on the wing. In my mind it was probably where he had his best season, and his best game over the last few years at Newcastle.

It depends which Arteta we'd be selling really, if he's incapable of regaining form I can't see the point keeping him. I consider Cahill too valuable to the team and dressing room but he is ineffective not played to his strengths.
I would sell Heitinga, Billy, Yobo, Anichebe and reluctantly if Moyes won't play him, the Yak.

He is ?

I've honestly seen no proof of that, seeing as Heitinga has barely played any decent games at Centre Back and ends up bench warming or being thrown out of position. You don't play in a World Cup final if you're crap, and at least he can pass the ball, unlike Ale house Jagielka.

I dont think he is crap, but he hasnt performed in any match he has played and must not do it in training or he would get picked...
As far as picking between the both of them. Jags has said nothing but reports are he wants to stays. Heitinga got mentioned in one paper about a possible move and he had his bags packed. Sell johnny we wont miss him and will get decent enough money.

Roque Junior....

Though I do agree with your overall comments!

Nonsense.

You only have to see on twitter the number of days they either have off or afternoons off to know they're not overtraining.

And as for ligament injuries these lads need to weight train to build up muscle mass.

Otherwise they'd get battered in Premier League games. Thats why they have two coaches for fitness and conditioning too.

Bolton have had a lot of injuries recently. Is that Coyle's fault?

NONSENSE.

Nonsense indeed, The majority of serious injuries are soft tissue injuries, the cause of which will lay in the intensity of the sessions performed, not the amount of afternoons watching Jeremy Kyle.

Building muscle would not really help a professional footballer reduce the amount of injuries as you can strengthen ligaments and tendons without adding muscle, getting bigger would only slow them down and alter thier movement patterns.

Over a period of time these soft tissues are weakened and cannot stand up to the rigours of the game if over trained. Thats when you start seeing cruciates and serious ankle injuries etc. Ohter sides who do not train at our intensity levels for the same period of time are much less sucseptible to these types of injury.

The in-game injuries like a broken leg are sods law, certain injuries are down to the club not doing more to minimise the risk.

To be fair to Moyes he is reputedly very good at the sciences side of the game so I'd be suprised if our problems were down to over training as opposed to just having a small squad.

Watch the players as they warm up, they never seem to stretch properly or raise their pulse...

Thats because theres a load of research that says stretching has little benefit, most sides only do this out of habit at this point.

The modern warm up is SAQ which is Speed, Agility, Quickness which replicates in game movements so that neuro muscular pathways are fully open and firing so that players are ready to perform at full potential from the first minute.
