Is Messi the greatest player ever?

Jesus Christ

He was very good but mentioned amongst the greatest ? no chance, not for me.

He isn't even the best Utd player of the last 20 years, let alone one of the greatest ever players. Stop it ! Infact he isn't even in the top 3 best Utd players of the last 20 years

I beg to differ mate

but its all about opinions

If we've moved on to compiling lists
Cryuf will always be the best for me

Cruyf
Stanley Matthews
Pele
Messi
Christiano Ronaldo
Puskas
Maradonna (Don't like him, but he was good. Can't be the best ever though due to his cheating)
Van Basten
Beckenbauer
Dino Zoff

That would be my top 10 in no particular order
Big Nev was better than Zoff and I don't care if he never won a WC.

And how can you leave Garrincha off?

You serious mate, come on. Behave.

You honestly think Cantona should be mentioned along with the greatest players the world has ever seen ?

Like i said, he isn't even the best Utd player of the last 20 years. In no particular order i would have these players over him anyday

Giggs
Scholes
Van Nistlerooy
Schmeichel
Keane

I agrree with you but I think I know where Nev's coming from.

Cantona is probably seen as the catalyst for Utd going on to their greatest period in history. I imagine most Utd fans who lived through the pre Ferguson lean years will feel the same as Nev.

Until he wins a World Cup, he'll forever be in Pele's and Maradona's shadow.
Never understood this argument and never will. We are talking about the greatest player, not team.

My personal opinion is that Maradona is the greatest player that ever lived. I would still have this opinion had he not lifted that trophy in 86.

Neither Pele or Maradonna won the european cup, Id argue that is much tougher to win than the world cup, Especially these days.

That is however my opinion though baby

When you mention the European cup, are you talking about the Champions league/European cup or the European Championship ?

I would say the European Championship is much harder to win than The World Cup. I'd agree to that.

but again, what does that have to do with an individual title ?

For me he is

People are faulting him these days and criticising him and I think quite a lot of it is undeserved. We have been used to seeing him in the past play the game at crazy levels, so when he performs lesser (still very good, mind) he gets crucified for it. The guy is amazing and if it wasn't for him the Argies wouldn't have got out their group this World Cup IMO.

Players like Xavi and Pirlo are the masters of passing, players like Robben, Di Maria and Iniesta are amazing dribblers, players like Ibrahimovic and Henry are absolute class finishers in front of goal.

Think about this.. Messi can do ALL OF THE ABOVE. He's the victim of his own success really, he hasn't got a World Cup to his name but some people these days are really discrediting him as a player

Dayum baby! I meant champions league but both are come to think of it.

The point of the matter is as much as you can say not winning the world cup puts Messi in Pele and Maradonnas shadow you could just as much argue vice versa that
neither won the European cup?

Three World Cups, more than 1,000 pro goals scored. Pele all day for me.

Irrelevant of whether Pele actually played in Europe or not, the fact he never won the European Cup, which is clearly much harder to win these days, but not in the era he played in, makes Pele rubbish.
