I think young people are more likely to say the likes of Pele and Maradona are better than Messi than older people who've seen them all.

As someone else has said, my old fella reckons Messi is definitely the best of all time, and he's one of them weirdos who thinks everything was better in the good old days so I believe him.

Interesting. I thought it was the other way round. Having seen them all myself I can confirm that Messi tops the pile. No-one has ever had his skills and end product as well.

I think this is the case too, due to the legendary reputation those players have gained.

Zidane was unbelievable, but I give Messi the edge. I think Zidane fans tend to be mesmerised by his charisma sometimes. His temperament was off, whilst Messi's is sublime. I also think Messi was quicker and the better on the run. Overall, Messi for me.

I can't comment on the others as I weren't alive, but those I know who did see Maradona play say it's a close call, but Messi is the better player all round. The stats back that up too.

The most consistantly brilliant player I've seen. Only saw Pele and Cruyff in clips. Maradona had more fantasy than Messi. You didn't know what he was going to do (Ronaldinho was the same in that respect for a couple of years). With Messi, you know exactly what he's going to do, you just can't stop him.

Dad is 48, he's not melodramatic to say the least, and he says the best player he's seen in his lifetime is Lionel Messi.

That's probably because he's just too young to have seen George Best or Pele......Believe me Best was Best........
