Is "The Athletic" worth it?

I subscribed once. Its worth it for the bargain price but they got rid of a bunch of journalists. There staff has a few decent ones but no one notable. For american sports Defector has much better writers like Ratto (Ratto is the best American footie writer right now and he's a generalist) and McKenna. Unfortunately Defector is also $80 year.

Nah. Enjoyed it at first as it was a novelty. Forgot to cancel year 2 so got stung.
I think I have cancelled for next years renewal but I wouldn't be shocked if an 'error' means I renew again.

Had it since it started mainly because of the EFC and Broncos/general NFL coverage, but just cancelled subscription. Don't like the overall current media promotion of 'global football' and pandering to an international soccerball base (see Daily Hate covering Ronaldo/Saudi Arabia and general focus on 'big' European teams) and don't see why I should pay to support it.

Seen that theres a 12 month subscription to the Athletic going for pretty cheap right now.

Just wondering if anyone on here would or would not recommend it?

My RS 'friend' has been recommending it to me for a while and says its the best. For obvious reasons I dont actually trust him when it comes to his opinion about sport related matters.
And him telling me i need to get it has made me dig my heels in even more about not.

So anyone want to change my mind or should I continue to live in ignorance?

The intro price is cheap; do you like to read your sports coverage? And are you interested in more than just football (especially the North American sports)? It has minimal ads, works well on the app, and there are very few videos. The pieces are all between short (Echo) and long form (if anyone still does this) and some are really good. The stats/data/graphics aren't very good (and it's intentional), so you'll have to go elsewhere if you want that sort of thing. I used to read ESPN a lot but I can't stand videos and they stopped writing at least half a decade ago. I like The Athletic but overall it gets mixed reviews.

It’s well worth it if you’re into another sport besides footy. The Everton content from Greg and Paddy is good, as are the transfer columns from Ornstein, but the rest is a bit meh at times

Get my moneys worth from the podcasts for the NFL, NHL, etc

The pods are overall very good but not like I can figure out how to listen to the ad-free/subscriber pods. (That said, anyone can listen to the pods with ads)
