Is "The Athletic" worth it?

I've got firefox for Android and there's a "reader" button that turns web pages into simplified pages for reading (just looks like a newspaper). I just click on that when I go to an article and it loads the whole thing without the paywall.

Was great when it first started. Took loads of reputable journo's. Im sure it still has quality in there now but feels like as it has grown, it's been watered down a little so now its more quantity than quality.

Quality has definitely been diluted IMO but still a lot of good stuff in there

Some I'm sure are vaguely atheletic ( no pun really). Those at the athletic are scrawny nerds and obviously consider themselves superior to your classic pundit. You have to be okay at football to get it imo and they look like they can't run 100m.

That's absolute nonsense - a physically disabled person can't 'get' football? You'd have to define what level 'OK at football' is.

99.9% of us aren't 'OK' at football by Premier League standards. Does that mean none of us can make a valid observation on a PL game or write about it?

I wouldn't pay a subscription fee to hear your comments [ oh wait ]. My point is the athletic pundits clearly view their opinions as being superior to ex players in a pretentious way. I wasn't quite having a dig at the disabled in all honesty.

Do they though? From what I've heard of them on various podcasts throughout the years they, and the Guardianista football writers, generally tend to be quite self deprecating.

Quite often what I read and hear from them makes a hell of a lot more sense and ages better than pretty much all TV pundit ex-players.

They’ve been instrumental in normalising terminology like “turnovers” and “xg”, enough said.

Which of their writers provokes your ire so much? Which particular articles are you basing your opinion on? Surely you don't instead rely on stereotypes about modern football writers to form a baseless opinion?

And you've still not explained what level of being 'OK' at football is required for someone to 'get' football.
