Ivan Toney

He's got a gambling problem and is seeking help. I find the comments about what he's doing and the leniency that's followed a bit of a joke.

He's not betting on football anymore, but still betting on other sports. Do me a favour Ivan, he's not trying at all with any apparent gambling addiction problems, if he does indeed have one.
How do you know he's not trying at all?

Remember when people admitted being 'bang to rights' and took their porridge accordingly?

Now it's ' the poor guy never got a rocking horse for Xmas when he was a kid', this led to him killing 15 people 30 years later.

Crying all round, and vastly reduced sentence.

Sounds very bad when you learn he was betting on his own team to lose but he hasn’t done that much wrong in my opinion unless I’m reading it wrong…..

the bets involving his own team, when he was in the squad/team he bet on his own side to win and in some cases backed himself to score .
The bets he placed on his team to lose are where he wasn’t in the squad/ team.

So any bet placed when he was actively involved meant his team had to win or he had to score.

I’d take him here all day.

Im genuinely surprised it isn't a life ban. You can't bet on your own team. Even if Toney didn't play in them, who's to say he didn't have a word with someone in the squad?

Yep. "wasn't in the squad" or "on loan at another club" so couldn't directly influence the result.

Okay but he can easily say to a lad "I'll give you £k if you do 'x'".

On a pay to play deal, because he would not have any dip in income when he wasn't playing right?

Looking at the recent spate of suspensions and significant bans world snooker has doled out, this looks every penny a farce. And the sudden revelation of him being ill with gambling addiction smacks rather of the chris pincher situation re his sudden illness.

Shambles.

Has it said the amount of the stakes bet? I mean you're not going to throw a Premier league game cos your mates got 500 on Brighton at 7/4

I was listening to a podcast the other day interviewing Steven Caulker who had a serious gambling problem throughout the earlier part of his career. He was saying when at Spurs that if he didn't make the squad he'd be off getting bladdered and betting against his team. He was massively into gambling as well, loan sharks, casino package trips abroad and all manner of madness.

He made no excuses for it but the betting against his team was addictive behaviour and anger rather than an arch plan to influence a game and get rich.

Because he's still betting. I don't personally see that as making an effort. Or one of any real substance.
Sorry mate but regardless of the situation and I don't know the facts, if he is an addict and just because he's still betting you think that means he's not making an effort without you knowing anything about him, that's a harsh line to take.
