The sad thing about Gordon was that when he was trying to force himself into the team under Benitez and Lampard he was displaying exactly what he is now for Newcastle, workrate, pressing, running behind continuously, getting into dangerous positions. He played a huge role in keeping us up.

Then Lampard’s second season started and despite the club building their attack around an academy player who hadn’t even been a first team player just a season earlier, he suddenly took on this demeanour of being a big deal. The work rate just decreased and he stopped doing all the good things he’d done previously when trying to prove his worth. By the end no one was even that bothered when we sold him because he wasn’t really affecting matches much anyway.

It would have been great if Dyche could have got hold of him because I think he would have cut a lot of that nonsense out and given Gordon the platform to really play his best football, but given the financial situation we’re in it’s likely that it always was going to end with Gordon being sold.

Tbh after selling Rooney none of the young players leaving hurts me that much anymore anyway. It would have been nice to have seen a team with Stones Barkley Davies Calvert Lewin Gordon down the spine having success but they each had their reasons for exiting the club (aside from DCL yet of course)
Agree with all of this. Academy player sales are great for balancing the books, by all accounts. And who knows what happened behind the scenes? It certainly wouldn't shock me if he was told at some stage that the club would have to cash in on him. Either that or he was offered an insultingly low contract.

It weren't behind the scenes that was the problem I'd say the mob chasing him down the road probably put the final nail in the coffin

Behind the scenes don't matter as much as front of house, where he wasn't training, wanted to force a move, thought he single handedly kept us up though he wasn't breaking any records, looked to have been affected by transfer talk to chelsea in the summer and was very very average when he did play for half a season. 40mil was good business, and I still think it is. Prefer Harrison

We have but none of them are right wingers. Isn’t hard for this lad to be the best in that position.
Yes true. However he has scored one and gained 3 (4?) assists in his 5 starts. I would sign him permanently if money was right.

What I have said a few times is that mme Leeds fan mates say he is a 1 in 4 player. Great some weeks and missing others. That might just be that people generally value attacking play and Leeds were doing precious little of that last season. Hard yards can go unnoticed.

Fits our team right now. Is what we need

He and McNeil are fine for where we are up to a mid table position. But we'll need attacking players who can get double figures for us to get any higher.

Very possibly but I would like us to get back to a firm footing. Survival this year 11-14 next year and then push on. He is firmly in our first XI for me (at this point) - think we may be agreeing
