Jagielka: There could be 'double figures' leaving Goodison this summer

If we get a big money offer for Stones tho, lets say 50mil+, I would cash in. I know hes got all the potential in the world and hes young and learning but Ive lost count of the amount of times Ive seen us concede a goal this season because he cant jump off the floor to make a header or hes not tight enough to someone in the box (origi in the derby and aguero in the semi are two examples off the top of my head).

Yes he may improve on this with age and experience but I just dont think he really has a natural defenders instinct and I dont think playing a 'ball playing centre half' is necessary at all really. With that 50 mil we could sign an absolute world class defender who JUST wants to defend and have money left over to spend on an attacking option.

Keep your creative players further up the park and have your players who want to defend at the back. Cruyff turns in your own box get you nowhere.

How was John stones ever going to learn to defend when Martinez was managing? He used to do silly things but if Martinez was happy for him to do that then he was never going to stop that.
Maybe with a fresh approach and new manager that'll now get stamped out

Really badly advised comments for Jagielka to have made, regardless of the truth of it, all this has done is give the papers/media carte blanche to go nuts with 'player exodus', losing all their best players, Stones/barkley/Lukaku all set to leave type stories and rather than the usual nonsense for sources they use - they can now point directly to his comments as their proof for it, additionally has now alerted everyone that we will need to bring in a lot of new faces - which will see a few extra ,million get added on top for anyone we sniff around.

Maybe, but then the media would go ahead and link them with moves away even if we said they are going nowhere and Jags remained silent.
The media hate us. See the managers they think we should be aiming for (Sherwood, Howe, Moyes again).

If we have huge ambition this season I would hold Stones and Barkley to their contracts. Lukaku too should the club believe that is the best way forward (I am still furious with his performance at Wembley).

There are at least 8 players who are surplus to requirements and are not performing at the level of some of the U21s knocking on the door, so Jags is right to some extent. The likes of Kone, McGeady, Gibson, Hibbert and the past it Pienaar and Osman, would not contribute anything next season.

BIG summer ahead both on and off the field!

There are too many players that are too comfortable, hopefully a clear out will improve morale and bring in fresh blood that is hungry to perform and not just be happy picking up a wedge for being fringe players.

Someone mentioned selling Lennon before, Jesus guys I have just bought his shirt, plus the value he brings to the squad is huge.

There will be a couple of surprises here, maybe around Gibson or Osman for another season, also we all agree that Rom will leave and Stones is a maybe dependant on who we get in as manager. But, don't be surprised if we lose RFM, it has been stated a few times that he is homesick plus he always seems to have a huge error in him. I know @AaronTheBlue wont like that but you never know.

I think the both Gerard and Mirallas will stay and give the new manager at least a year.

Exciting times, just need to get the manager in place fast

Interesting comments from the captain, unusual comments.

It shows that the players realise that big changes are happening. I think this was happening even if RM had stayed on and he referred to it in his statement after leaving.
We all knew that Howard was gone, probably Hibbert, Pienaar and Gibson as well , Osman is unlikely to stay but I think everybody else is under contract and unlikely to have buyers beating down the door.
I wonder if it means the players know that Stones and Lukaku are gone, maybe Barkley ?
Interesting times.

Bit of an odd thing to say. Agree with most of the players listed in this thread but they're not 'established first team players' like has been quoted. So would point more towards the likes of Stones, Barkley and Rom rather than your McGeady's, Kones and Hibberts.

Mirallas put on instagram "be sure that I will be there at pre season start for the 2016-17 battle!"

So he seems to think he's staying

For our 'best squad in years' there is an awful lot of deadwood in there.

. Galloway, Davies, Pennington and Dowell look like they will be ready for the leap next year.
. Piennar, Hibbo, Howard, Gibson will be let go on frees - I have a feeling Osman will get another year.
. Then you have a group of players who just don't seem up to it if we want to progress - Mcgeady, Cleverley, Oviedo, Kone, Niasse, Funes Mori?!? even Mccarthy...we can't get rid of all of them can we? If we lose Stones/Lukaku it obviously means an even bigger reshuffle.

By my count, even if we keep Lukaku and Stones we need a new cf and a new centre back, as well as no 10 and a centre midfielder.

I miss the Summer of 2014 where we were all about getting a No 10 in...which I am still waiting for!
