Jagielka: There could be 'double figures' leaving Goodison this summer

A lot of names mentioned in this thread but i havent seen Barry called out.

He had a good year really but he is getting older. We saw him a step behind in a lot of cases. He uses his experience well to get into good positions but with Besic and these youngsters maybe he is politely asked to retire?

How about we wait until he's not our player of the year before we move him on? He's in better form and fitness than most 25 year olds.

I'm not saying offer him a five year deal, but a year at a time is the best approach. When his legs go they go, but until then he's utterly boss and we should keep on utilising said bossness.

Probably get shot down here but you do need numbers. You also need some old heads that are happy to sit on the bench on a lowish wage and are simply back ups. Use the youth but I think that it may well be worth keeping some for another year if they are likely to be on lower wage and not disruptive. If they are on lower wages means that we can maximise wages on genuine first teamers.

1. Mattioni
Pointless if as a backup he is injured.

2. Osman
Keep for a year on a low wage.

3. Hibbert
Release

4. Pienaar
He's gone

5. Howard
Gone

6. Gibson
Probably on a decent wage and if less injury prone would be worthwhile keeping just as he provides a contrast to McCarthy and Barry. Not worth keeping.

7. Kone
We need a decent backup to frontline striker if playing one. Kone is not the answer and definitely not the answer as a back up . Could be worthwhile lower down leagues if played regularly. Type of player that the less he plays the worse he gets.

8. McGeady
High wages and has never done anything.

9. Niasse
He'll probably stay unless we can cancel the deal and he returns to Russia.

Our big problem next year is not going to be in Defence or Midfield. Lukaku is going to go.

In the Echo he states
"Hopefully the guys will have a good summer and then next year will be even better."

Not us but "the guys".

Whilst he may have shown little effort over the last few months he consistently scores.

Its going to be really difficult to replace those lost goals.

Think Barry still has a role to play at the club, he is a great influence on the likes of McCarthy and Besic, I don't believe though he will play as much next season but he still has great value to the squad.

It's also a huge year for Ross, he will become the spine of the team or he will be flogged of to City for 40 million, again dependant on who comes in

I'm abit miffed at people wanting to sell Garbutt like, always thought he has looked quality when I have seen him.

I felt the same and was annoyed when he was shot out on a season loan. But there was ill feeling towards him from RM. I think he should have stayed and even now be shadowing Baines. Garbutt is a proper left back, good left foot on him. Rather see Oveido go .

I remember one pundit saying after the arsenal game (when barry was missing and martinez pointed that out)
If you have aspirations of being a top 4 side you cannot be relying on a 36 year old gareth barry week in week out

If as has been bandied around we do have 100m or anything close to that which is going to be put into the team this summer for a new manager (presuming that is on top of any major sales) and we go into the new season with either Jagielka who will be 34 or Barry who will be 35 as a nailed on first 11 player as they currently are then we have done something seriously wrong.

Both still good players but struggling to find any way a new manager will not look to replace both in the starting line up with players he can build around

Think he's on a goal drought since West Ham or something. I think he scores when he shows effort but last few games, he really did not show any interest at all.

Sell Barry are you joking
A good player who is in the twilight of his career in favor of a youth with more upside, probably lower wages and many years ahead?

...in my job I usually invest in stocks that are rising and good future. I usually sell or cut assets as they decline or only maintain.
IF you consider Everton a business then probably the right decision is to part ways or restructure Barry's contract. I am not saying Barry is worthless i am saying he is worth less.
