Jagielka: There could be 'double figures' leaving Goodison this summer

No chance at all! 35 year old immobile Tony Hibbert central defence alongside the invisible man Mr Marrioni, with three full-time crocks in midfield and a defensive midfielder on the ring, plus two non-goalscoring strikers up top!

Are Blackpool still a shambles and desperate for players? Maybe we can sell them all bar Howard as a box set.

i agree with those who say this is a good thing. we have a lot of players holding back (to an extent) some promising youngsters. how often do players like gibson play every season? the odd minute here and there, it's not something a say tom davies can't do next season. Same with osman being replaced by dowell, hibbert by kenny etc.

under moyes and with kenwirght's money, hibbert et all would have been given new contracts because we wouldn't have been able to afford replacements, nor would those from the youth team been good enough to be entrusted either.

It's the end of an era and a massive change (we've seen a lot of it in just the 3 years since martinez arrived tbf), but it's not exactly the end of a successful era, those group of experienced players leaving haven't won anything with us.

Blessing in disguise we're not in europe because next season will be transitional, and it will be an easier transition without that hinderance (something we would have expected at the start of last season) - but i find it really exciting. I think it's something which would have happened regardless of who the manager is. ... unless moyes gets re-appointed, i suppose.

we'll bring in 4 or 5 top players into the starting line-up with a £100m spend and that's already looking a strong squad which is large enough, when you add a few youngsters. Providing we don't sell any first teamers.

So, given we can keep Lukaku, Barkley and Stones, let's play Football Manager :)

GK:
<NEW PLAYER - Forster?>
Joel
(Hunt)

DR
Coleman
(Browning)
(Holgate)
(Kenny)
(Connolly)

DL
Baines
Garbutt/Oviedo (sell one)
Galloway

DC
Jagielka
Stones
Funes Mori
<NEW PLAYER - Lemos?>
(Pennington)

MC
Barry
Besic
<NEW PLAYER - Wanyama? >
McCarthy
Cleverley
(Davies)
(Ledson)

AMC
Barkley
Tarashaj

AMR
Lennon
Deulofeu

AML
<NEW PLAYER - Yarmolenko? >
Mirallas
(Dowell)

SC
Lukaku
<NEW PLAYER - Beharino? >
Niasse

19 first-team players
9 u21 players
5 new first-teamers (20 mill a piece? :) )

Squad of 24, with 9 capable backups for league cup and injury crisis

With no major outgoings, we need at least:

New goalie
New central defender
New central midfielder
New left-wing
New striker

I am a bit undecided on right-back, but we are supposed to have 4 promising players here, so either use them, or get rid of at least 2.

Off the top of my head -

Howard
Hibbert
Pienaar
Gibson
Osman
Oviedo
Kone
McGeady

then perhaps
Stones
Lukaku
Mirallas

and hopefully
Niasse

If Kone and Lukaku go then it makes no sense to get rid of Niasse unless you want to spend over 1/2 your transfer budget on 3 strikers. Now Niasse may not be any good but he was stuck in an impossible situtation. A manager in self-preservation mode and a team that quit on the manager. At worst he's probably a solid No.2 striker but there is potental that he could be quite good and No.2 strikers are going to go for high wages and around 10M these days (see naismith). 100M today won't be like having 100M 5 years go because there are going to be massive bidding wars and massive wage bills for some players that you would call pretty good.

Already there are shouts for 20M for the likes of Ashley Williams. Yea he's good, but he's also 31.

We are losing Osman, Hibbert, Gibson, Howard & Peinaar out of contract. They have probably played about 20 games between them this season. You then consider Lukaku is all but gone and none of us would really miss Mcgeady. So that's 7. Sounds a lot but really just clearing out the dead would to allow players to come through.

Garbutt is back from loan, Davies & Dowell have shown they are ok and I think Kenny/Ledson should be with the first team. That is 5 lads already alongside seeing more from Browning, Galloway & Pennington.

That is before we bring anyone in. Long story short we will be fine. We need to clear out a few and rebuild but I don't think losing 6 of the above 7 names and replacing them with the young players I've mentioned would worry many managers. I'd hazard a guess to say they would be quite happy with it as it saves them having disgruntled well paid pro's around undermining them.

Jags is right, we need a good clean out. It isn't that the players concerned are holding up the progress of youngsters but they are a drag on the wage bill.
We need to let the new manager do his stuff, if he wants to get rid of 10 then so be it. Football at Premiership level is a cut throat business, you are either contributing or you are moving on. A smaller more competitive squad may well be the way to go. Leicester City seemed to work it well enough.

A good clean out is badly needed .. Depending on what happens we may keep stones and Ross with rom on his way out . If we get the right manager and the reported 65million for rom I think we can rebuild very nicely . A lot of the "squad" have not played much and when they have got themselves injured again so it's not like we will miss them .. Putting in the youngsters in there place can only be good .. Expect a couple of big signings and we could hit the ground running next year .. The new manager choice here is critical and not sure our best option ... Don't think we'll get Jose who would be my first choice but hoping somebody not yet mentioned may come along and surprise us all ... Keep hoping lads like we do every year ... This time it might just work !!! COYB

Terrible comments from Jags. What does he hope to get from this ? Is he going to miss his buddies.

Doesn't work like that. Jags isn't a reporter, or a writer. He doesn't randomly call up the press and say 'hey btw, I think we will lose x.' He's a pretty quiet guy at the best of times. When these types of *stories* come out, he is being channelled to say this on behalf of the club.

“There is going to be a lot of change in the playing squad. I am not sure the squad is going to be big enough for the start of next season with the people who are leaving.

“It is a case of the club deciding what sort of squad and formula they want to go for both on the pitch and off the pitch. That will determine what manager they want.

“I am not sure exactly what will go on but there could be double figures leaving, which is a lot.

We are not talking about young lads either. We are talking about established first-team players.

Thoughts?

Interesting. So thats essentially an entire teams worth leaving?

Do have the feeling we will sell two of these three
Lukaku, stones or Barkley
that was my thought, I can't see what his actions gains the fresh start we all want, simply causes panic and creates a negative atmosphere when that had just dispersed, makes me wonder if he was one of martinez's men
