Jags!

We are skint, compared to our contemporaries. They're strengthening their squads, and we're not really.

I've got to disagree. As it stands, we don't have an in-form senior striker. We don't have left back cover. We don't have a dedicated RM/RW player.

Compare that to Spurs and Man City. They're covered for all of them. Now, perhaps Anichebe can cover RM effectively next season, in which case I'll withdraw that claim. And maybe the Yak will hit his stride. And maybe Baines won't get injured. The point is though, you've got to have the depth to prepare for all situations. We were caught out last season, and adding another keeper and 3 unproven (PL) strikers, is not going to prevent the same thing from happening.

Anyway, I would hate to see Jags go. He's one of my favourite players, and one of our best, but so was Lescott and selling him benefited the club immensely.

Behave. Skint? Our turnover's >£80million. Thats not skint!

And people who are SKINT can't pay their players. Barcelona are skint (£155million loan to pay them). Portsmouth are skint. West Ham were pretty much skint.

Everton are NOT skint.

And are you telling me that we haven't strengthened the squad this summer ?

If you say we haven't you're lying.

On the other hand mate, whats the point in having really talented youngsters unless there is space in the squad to allow them to break through.

I see where you're coming from, but I think you're missing the point.

Usually young players learn from the experienced ones in their positions. They develop, and eventually edge said players out of the team. Having too few senior players is never a good thing, and asking too much of youngsters isn't either.

Not skint, managable debt as it were.
NO NEED TO SELL!
I thank you!

Mortgaged to the hilt, interest to pay on loans as well as the loans themselves, gaps in the squad as RFUS points out, crumbling stadium with little scope to redevelop or up sticks....

There isn't a day goes by when I don't thank the Lord for David Moyes and our youth system. Really, where would we be without them?

You're preying on a technicality. Okay, we're not skint by your definition, but we don't have the finances to match our ambition. That's my view. Maybe I should just word it like that.

And yes, of course we've strengthened the squad. Losing the 3rd choice keeper and an overrated youngster, but bringing in a better keeper, a seemingly better youngster and 2 other strikers, means that we clearly have. But have we strengthened it enough? I don't think so, but time will tell I guess. I hope we have. I hope we excel next season. I'm just trying to be rational.

But how unless they get an oppurtunity mate if you say we have a good first team, i dont see the point in bringing in average players as back up for the 10 -15 games a season we might suffer injuries or suspenseions like we have in recent seasons - id have a Coleman, Anichebe/Gueye and Rodwell over a Jacobson, Van Der Meyde and Castillo any day.

£4.5 million interest a season.

As opposed to as someone put it on here "our contemporaries who are strengthening their squads"

RS £70million+ this year

and the rest.

Perspective please.

Throwing in youngsters too early is not good. That's my point. I remember Seamus making his debut last season, at LB against Benfica!!! It should have never had to happen.

Anyway, you need senior players. If you have 3-4 great players competing for the same spots (like Man City) then you're right though, that's bad for the young players. However we don't. We have 1, and at times last season 0, experienced players for each position.

This.

Gradual year on year squad improvements as far as I can see. And because the bubble's burst many of these "contemporaries strengthening their squads" will be feeling the pinch soon enough.

It was me who said that, but yes I agree with you. Our debt is much lower than our "contemporaries". In the present that doesn't do us much good, but hopefully soon not spending as much will give us the edge.

oh forget it

Internet forum 101 there, mate.

I'm sure if any other "model" club's you're holding up - the massive indebted or soon to be ones - had the injuries we had last season, they'd have done the same.

Squads are limited to 25 this year and unlimited U21.

With 8 in the 25 HOME GROWN (i.e. 3+years under 21 at a British club ) .

Squad strengthening indeed.... ITS BUSINESS AS USUAL FOR US.

And as for the UEFA Financial Fair Play regs in 2013 coming in - we're in transition period now.

Many many clubs will have to curtail spending. As there are loss limits in place.

But again - business as usual for Everton.

These other clubs will have to come back to reality soon.... and thats why this season is SO important for Everton Football Club.

Probably the most important since we avoided relegation in the 1990's but for opposite reasons. Getting a trophy / Champions League

It could set us up for the next decade.
