An Australian guy came out a couple of months ago too, plays for Adelaide Utd I think. Apparently he was the first current player in the world to come out which surprised me.

It's a shame that people even have to formally come out, but these guys will certainly pave the way for the next group of players to be more comfortable with it.

This is hopefully the first big step towards that level of progress.

And if his career doesn’t go as planned and this gets him some kind of fallback career option in the public eye or behind the scenes in football with the PFA, then fair play to the lad. If you’re gonna have the Jerry Halls to stick your neck out in public like this, reap whatever rewards you can that will at least partly offset the dogs abuse he’ll get from Brexit goblins around the country.

This explains why we have a long way to go in society. The world could do with more love and less hate. If two grown ass adults who just happen to be the same sex, find love then good on them. I honestly dont understand why people get so worked up about it tbh, when it in no way affects their own lives. There are so many more important things to get angry about

Excellent.... moving on. Cant wait for the day 'coming out' isn't a thing and people can just be themselves. I feel making a song and dance about just further delays it being accepted by people as normal.

Club gave him his first pro contract the other week. Blackpool FC have been working with him at many levels preparing him for this I believe. The club think a lot of him and believe he will go far in the game.

He comes across as quite mature in his interview and stuff. Also said something along the lines of "I know there will be abuse, but at the end of the day - the people shouting that have paid money to come and see me play" lol

Asked this question yesterday, I dont remember anything like that when he was here and the rainbow laces campaign has been going on for a few years now. Be interesting to see if he was 'injured' for a similar reason here.

Don't think that was an issue here, but it was also not "forced" to happen - you can also opt out, which he probably did, as rainbow laces is a month or so long (?) not just one game.

I don't remember at any rate tbh.

I have absolutely no opinion on the matter, and nor should anyone else. He can do what he likes, but I dont see the need for its promotion at all.
