Or maybe we didn't buy a guy who'd never played higher than the second tier Belgium league, but now he's played a full season in a good league we have done because he's shown he's good enough. How much has that full season in France improved him as well. If we'd bought the player that Lyon did, last season he'd have literally sat in the u21s all season wouldn't he?
Well nah he’d have been loaned out or in the seniors given his age and experience. But you basically agreed with my point that we’re signing him on the back of 9 months of play.

Yeah he went for a mill and in general I massively agree with your point that our scouts are crap and recruitment is too reactionary. Minteh probably an even worse example of that.
But a big song and dance was made of how the only money out last summer was for Danjumas loan fee so we might have literally not even been able to afford a mill. Then on top of that we breached PSR whilst having to sell off the entire academy including Samuels Smith so even if we wanted to it wouldve been a tough sell.
But im going to not give them too much benefit of the doubt because there's absolutely no way anyone at the club was aware of him anyway even if we could afford him. It is worth noting though if we did sign him last summer that he wouldn't have kicked on at all because he'd have sat on the bench for the whole season.

Mate it's insane logic, why didn't united buy Braithwaithe last year from us, why didn't villa buy Onana when he was 17, hell Lindstrom we should have gotten from Brondby fir a few million too tbh.

Long term ofc we did, but neither of them walked into the team, Jarrod and DCL both took a few years to start to feature.
But unless you wanna turn into Zatara mate with a squad of prepubescents then you can't always sign the player 'before' they've actually shown they can handle that step up.
Take our business this season - Tim could very well turn into one of those players, but premier to premier there's a huge premium, if you think palace would sell him to us for 1m you're living in cuckoo land, they gave a massive fid punt and btw have a big sell on fee because they are in essence a sister club almost.
