Also I don’t see why Tarkowski can’t be improved upon. To me he’s an average but dependable bottom half Premier League defender, people seem to go on like he’s prime John Terry and his place in the team is set in stone. If this lad is an improvement on him then he should come into the team.

You do know Tarks was the top rated English centre back last season. He’s the glue that holds things together and we did have one of the best defensive records with him in it.
@MikeH72 proving once again he knows nothing about Football

Assume no top half football club knows anything about football either seeing as they’ve never tried to sign him. You wall-pushing illegal stadium-entering barnacle.
Wrong on so many levels…… again, currently waiting for my season ticket for the upper Bullens to arrive, so be quiet

I think that last season we were very lucky with injuries. The centre back pair of Tarkowski/Branthwaite hardly missed a game, Garner,DCL, Harrison, McNeill, Doucoure, Gana missed very few matches between them.
Others missed some games but most of our " first eleven" were generally able to play most games and at times it showed in performances where players were looking tired.

We may not be as lucky this season and signing O Brien is an attempt to deepen the squad. The fee is big for Everton in our current state but not a big fee by premiership standards.

We do still need at least one centre midfielder, ideally two, a full back that maybe could play left and right and if DCL leaves then another striker.

Even then we will have a squad that should be enough but still a long way off being a big squad.

Players like Holgate in particular and Michael Keane are players that really the club would like to move on but just may not be able to do so.

I would not be surprised either to see an older more experienced keeper brought in as extra cover.
To your point I think the biggest risk to our season would be if Pickford, Branthwaite and/or Tarks missed significant time. They are absolutely the glue that keeps our floor at least at a decent level. If any one of them were to miss time, with Keane or Holgate coming in, it would spell disaster

If JOB is an upgrade on either of those two, it's a good signing.

No and fully expecting the posters with incontinence problems to come out from under the stairs about 9 o'clock and start with the "wHys it tAkiNg sO LONg" and "WHy dO EVerton ruIN EvEry TranSFer" shouts
They're probably just trying to find one of those fish-eye lenses that estate agents use to get his giant frame into the shirt holding picture.
