Serious questions need asking about this signing, namely:
- Who identified O'Brien as a potential signing?
- Was John Textor involved in the transfer and what was the real fee and terms of the deal?
- What was his intended role in the squad?
- Who signed off on the transfer?
- Was he signed knowing that no further funds would be available for additional transfers?
- Has he been injured or underperforming in training, hence why he gets 0 minutes in a struggling team?
- Was he signed a year in advance as the successor of Branthwaite?
It strikes me that Everton needed numbers, felt like Branthwaite would end up going and Textor, in the middle of a takeover attempt, allowed Everton to get him for a massively deflated fee with future add-ons that are probably hard to attain. I would imagine Dyche had little input and say in the transfer, and doesn't rate the player. Dyche also knows he won't be manager when Branthwaite is sold, so doesn't need to bother himself with O'Brien this season.
