Yes after Iwobi passed it to him ....

Yep as above mate not at Garners door - so fair point, you cant legislate for that, so thats fair.

Still id like to see him support the offensive play more, big problem for us is our attack and midfield are often in different countries, the link up and support play is never great, this lad has ability, he can knit and has execution to break a line id like to see him get that bit more forward. Not a criticism really more a critique and observation, he's developing - my point wasn't really all or nothing. Id wholly take on board in our situation you have to guard against leaving the front door open to.

Onana. An enforcer?
I've seen more power in a packet of Daz.
Hes an athletic 6'4 centre mid that tackles anything that moves and wins loads of headers.

There is a really strange cult in this fanbase who think he's crap. Which is mental. He makes Gana look serviceable and our midfield not look like Swiss cheese. Lucky for you lot, you won't have to watch him for too long because he'll be playing for a proper club very soon.

Forgive me for wanting my midfielder to be able to control and pass a ball occasionally.

Forgive me for wanting my midfielder to offer some goal threat and actually be brave on the ball rather than rally the crowd. Drive him to Madrid myself.

Hes a 21 year old lad in his first full season as a first team regular and he's doing it in the hardest league in the world for a team who are run and coached by idiots and surrounded by players like Mykolenko and Keane.

He can control and pass a ball. More than occasionally too. He is brave on the ball. The goal threat i agree with but if he had that he absolutely wouldn't be here.

He's a work in progress with a really high ceiling and more than enough ability currently to be starting in this team. Surrounded my competent footballers and a coach who isn't Sean Dyche and he'll flourish.

Reminds me of a young Michael Carrick, just looks composed & cool on the ball, we’ve needed that all season .

I could see him as a similar type, sitting between defence and midfield as a metronome.

Alternatively he's also shown at Forest (4goals, 8assists) he can play as a CM. Takes a good set piece as well.

As ive said since we were linked, hes a good all rounder and like Roy Keane says when asked what role he had in midfield...hes simply a midfielder.

Thought him and gana played well tonight, can say gana is not great on the ball. But also puts in alot of work defensively winning the ball back and pressure on players. I dont think onana would be the better option atm, i do think he would make a great sub fresh legs in cm

Just following on from the above. Both Lampard and now Dyche keep changing Onana's role. Theyve said theyre doing that to improve his all round game.

He's clearly more of a DM. The stats back that up in terms of his performances and attributes.

He's quite literally on paper the ideal player to sit as an anchor or as a double pivot with Garner.

We just need to see this which is why its such a pity we have Dyche as manager rather than someone who likes to pass through midfield.

When we have Gana in the team then we need someone who can hold a position defensively as Gana can be a headless chicken pressing machine.

Thats the issue with playing Gana. So with Garner he's either got to have that role or Onana needs to be used instead of Garner.

If Garner does go forward theres also a reliance on Gana to hold position which isnt ideal.

Exactly.

I think if we stay up and manage to hold onto Branthwaite, Patterson, Garner, Onana and McNeil then theres a lot to be excited about with 50% of our outfield being u23.

Get in an attacking midfielder to complement Onana and Garner and we could really be im business.

It would be exciting if we had all these young players and we were pushing for the Champions League places but we are in 19th facing relegation.

You need to lower your expectations of these players and where we are as a club right now. We are so far behind the likes of Brighton and Brentford. Even if we stay up it's going to be the exact same again next year with a transfer ban incoming.

Any transfer ban or penalty could be appealed which would push it past the summer window.

The players mentioned would all have increased top level experience and should look better together next season (if we stay up).

Where we lack is an attacking midfielder and 'fit' centre forward. Add those two and the 5 players and were a different 11.

I've noticed in the second half for most games he started , he has a tendency for his influence to fade but I don't think its due to stamina , almost seems like he's following instructions to fall back further but that's just my interpretation
