Aye, it's a fair point. Onana has had the same problem.
And its honestly to the managers credit that hes tried many different options, he can see its not working and he keeps trying to unlock a system that works.

Hes managed to get the best out of Gana some weeks, but Garner and Onana have yet to shine for me.

It doesnt mean all havent done their job, but its dogs of war stuff, thats not said critically, it worked.

Our midfield area is a mess.

Thats the problem.

Our back line is settled, they all know their jobs, but the midfield just seems like it makes it up as it goes most weeks.

1 week Jimmy is tasked with being an 8, the next week a 6, then sometimes a 7, hell even a 2.

He does his job, but I dont think our midfield allows players to shine.

Look at our mgr, I'm surprised we can do anything on the offensive side of the ball; and we barely did.

It's six of one and half a dozen of the other.

Yes, he's been shifted about a bit, but that's in large part down to the fact he hasn't dominated in MF half as much as he should do.

Look at Gueye. Every few weeks he stamps his imprint on a game through his industry and on the odd occasion he's adventurous enough to even get a goal.

IMO Garner is way too anonymous at times. I like him a lot. I think he can be a lot better though. He's not a destroyer and neither is he a great ball carrier. His forward passing is his strong point. He needs to add to that urgently this season though.

I wouldnt be offering him nothing until he has proved himself!

For me he hasn't done anything at all, he works his plums off yes, im yet to see any quality from him.

You'd wait until next summer when he only has a year on his deal?

I like him a lot and think he could be really good one day but we could easily replace his performances from last season

I do think he’s got it in him to kick on a lot this season so fingers crossed he does and THEN we can offer him a contract extension

This has been a major part of our problem.
Giving lengthy contracts to players based on little glimpses of quality.

Mate I'm not saying give him 100k PW, I'm just saying tie him down to a long term contract because he has already shown clearly he's a solid to good player.

It's hardly a case of Holgate or Keane and giving a contract to a player who'd underwhelmed. Or a Davies who'd looked [Poor language removed] besides a few games, Garner pretty much was the ever present in the midfield last year and held the team together at times

He needs to prove he's more than a squad player for a long term deal.

Maybe by playing the most minutes of any outfield player last season he kinda proved that don't you think?

But fine let him enter the last year of his deal, when our other cm options consist of a 34 year old Gueye in his last year, a 31 year old Doucoure entering his last year and a 20yo lad from villa whose never kicked a ball for us and seldom for villa either
