As a fan base we are way too quick to slate players mate, I've seen it's dozens of times way back even to the likes of Sheedy, sometimes just sometimes just because people like to moan.

If any evertonian thinks that Jimmy g is within the top 10 of our problems frankly they're a [Poor language removed] idiot
I don’t think anyone is saying he’s one of our biggest problems though are they? I just think he’s an alright midtable premier league midfielder which is fine but I don’t see any need to be rewarding him for what he’s done so far.

That's fair enough mate.

My take in him is he's very much underrated - I also feel he's sacrificed in part his own game for the good of the team - he's literally filled in about 6 separate positions over his time with us, not because he's not good at his preferred but because he's very versatile.

Also think he got ran into the ground last season due to a complete lack of rotation and subs by Dyche.

Get him playing a full season in his best position, get players in who can give him some forward options ahead (not Doucoure whose movement is unbelievably poor, and McNeil and Harrison who just don't have any pace) rest the lad sometimes so he's not running on fumes.

I'd get him a new contract now, as we don't want him going into next summer with one year remaining.

I guess if it's on the same wage then why not ?

Nah he'll get a decent pay rise on a new contract, the lads pretty much the lowest earner at the club of anyone whose playing.

30k PW, a fair bit less than Young, Coleman, around the same as Chermiti and Patterson.

I'd expect something around the 50k mark, which is fair.

I hate this dishing contracts out. He’s got 2 years left. Sort it next summer. If he doesn’t want to sign then, sell him. He’s not some generational talent.

In the modern game mate you don't want any player you want to keep to get to 12 months left.

Your idea sounds good until it leads to players walking out for nothing after sitting out their contracts.

Sell him on 12 months immediately reduces the price you'll get and not everyone will go, a lot will sit it out and go on a free as we may be seeing with DCL and did see with Barkley and others subsequently

Sure, an incremental increase within our wage structure if Dyche thinks he's worth it - certainly contributed more than Patterson and Chermiti.

We haven’t had a big problem with players we wanted to keep walking out for nothing though. We have had a problem with throwing big money 5 year contracts at players that have done little.

Thing is mate, Garner is on a very low contract - we can likely tie him down for 5 years on something like 45-50k which in no way would be like some previous daft moves on contracts. I'm not arguing we should be throwing him a 90-100k pw deal.

Brentford look to be in that situation with Toney too
Better to sort contracts earlier for sure
