I can't think of any players off the top of my head that do what he does so well.

Just like many people are creaming over the prospect of getting Cuenca from Barcelona when in actual fact he isn't that good, Kroos is good but the fact that he plays for Bayern makes him appear better than he is.

Not turn him down; just that if I had the choice, I think McCarthy is a more valuable specialist player in our system that Kroos would be. In fact, I can't imagine our style of play without what McCarthy does.

Kroos is about as good a playmaker as you're likely to find and to be fair to James, I can't think of many midfield engines as good as him.

McCarthy's Everton. His attitude, his footballing character. He's just Everton. He embodies everything that's always been good about us, even when we've been crap. I can't think of a player and a club more suited.

Would you accept £20m for McCarthy? Considering we'd need the money more, it makes sense (if Kroos is, according to you, better). However, I don't know anyone who would accept that deal.

No, but it's because they don't need the money that they only accepted 20m for him. Money is more important to us than them so it stands to reason we would demand more.
