I think they might have to. Their defence needs investment and I consider United stakeholders demand at minimum a CL place this season. Their current squad (in my opinion), will not deliver this.

So, Utd may come knocking for McCarthy, but I suspect he wont be very receptive. As I said, some of the lustre of Man U has gone

Exactly...we always seem to be couple of players short..getting a DM was a no-brainer, I would absolutely love McCarthy here. McCarthy and Schneiderlin are the only two defensive mids I would take from the premier league, both proven players in the league who can pass the ball well.

Howard doesn't play as a midfielder does he?

Would be nice if we could get a few goals from central midfield (Barry and McCarthy are equally useless at that). Puts more expectation on the front 4 + our fullbacks to score.

McCarthy in particular could improve when he has a clear shot at goal from 25yds and passes it wide again.

Why on earth would he consider going there? Van Gaal, aka Mr Potato Head, is already a flop.

He's our most important player even though he doesn't show up on the stat sheet. NEA that he doesn't score...scoring goals is massively outside his job description. Our fullbacks are free to be boss because of James. It's beautiful when it's clicking.
