James McCarthy

People where calling for Felli's head after the first couple of games, he's useless, the game passes him by, he's not technical etc etc.

Its wrong to judge McCarthy off the game last night, in fact nobody as really seen enough to justify a proper opinion of him. He's not going to be the creator, the driving force etc, he'll be the engine.

As long as he does what RM wants him to do, and he's effective doing it, then that should be enough for all of us

We've just paid £13m for him, of course people are going to expect to see a quality player & they have every right to give their opinion on any game he plays in whether its his first or his 101st

People looking to stifle opinion & making out its somehow 'unfair' to even have any form of view that might be negative are pissing me off tbh.

He put in a stereotypical passenger performance for Ireland the other day, but the tactics were grim so it'd be unfair to judge him overall.

The problem is that I've seen him put in similar anonymous performances for Wigan too. The hope is that he'll be more consistent and step up in a higher calibre team, but there's a definite real danger that we've just spunked away £13m on the new Mark Pembridge.

I've always seen him as someone like Milner when he was at Villa, stands out in a team full of rubbish. I hope he proves me wrong, but £13m is a lot of money.

Yeah true. It's not like he's been playing for the last four years in the Premier League or anything.

I'm not stifling anyone; people can have their opinion. But to have an opinion before he's even played 1 minute for us in nonsense; his position in our team will be totally different to that he played for Ireland.

And if people are expecting some goalscoring, creative midfielder, just because we paid £13m for him, are going to be very disappointed. The £13m was paid because he's the player RM wanted and thats what he was prepared to pay

Like Bobby, I'll give them both the season, it's not like they are new to the PL.

Oh i'm sorry, the 7 games you've seen him live or the 1hr of match of the day highlights; which one justifies that you know him inside out????

I didn't say I knew him inside out. I'm making the point that he's hardly been invisible to any football fan who follows the Premier League has he? I've certainly seen enough to "justify a proper opinion on him", let's put it that way.

I have an opinion on Chris Brunt, James McClean and hundreds of other footballers too. If you don't watch football and take an interest in other players other than those who wear the blue of Everton, that's your business, but you shouldn't be writing off legit opinions on a player on this forum based on your own limited knowledge of football.

My actual view is he's a decent, 6/10, consistent player for what it's worth.
