James McCarthy

This can only be a good thing (unless your an Ireland fan). Common sense has prevailed.

Also, maybe being optimistic but if his hamstring was THAT bad he wouldn't have gone on international duty in the first place as the Everton medical staff would have known there's no way he'd be fit in two weeks.

So all around good signs (I hope) and all being well should be back for West Ham!

.....so he's got an emotional hamstring. Hopefully he'll be sent back for treatment. It's much better with these type of knock's if he's in familiar surroundings and not travelling too much. I really don't see him being ready for West Ham.

James McCarthy has left the Republic of Ireland squad and will return to Everton. The midfielder picked up a hamstring injury during the Blues’ 1-1 draw with Sunderland at the weekend and, although he reported for international duty, he is now heading back to Finch Farm. Upon his return, McCarthy will be assessed further by the Club’s medical staff.

Ireland play Scotland in a Euro 2016 qualifier on Friday, before a friendly against the USA next week. McCarthy's Goodison teammates Aiden McGeady, Seamus Coleman and Darron Gibson are all in Martin O’Neill’s squad for the fixtures.

....cheers, LL, that makes sense.

Emotional hamstrings seem very fashionable among the best midfielders at the moment :)

Chelsea are confident Cesc Fàbregas will be fit to start their next Premier League game, against West Bromwich Albion, despite the midfielder withdrawing from the Spain squad citing discomfort in his hamstring. Fàbregas was called up by Vicente del Bosque for Saturday’s Euro 2016 qualifier against Belarus in Huelva and next Tuesday’s friendly against Germany in Vigo but indicated he had an injury. The Spanish football federation’s medical staff examined the 27-year-old in Madrid and, while there did not seem to be a serious problem, agreed to release the player back to Chelsea for treatment.
...
Del Bosque said on Wednesday the player’s “muscle seems all right, but he complains and he is the best doctor” and that, “when a player of his calibre tells you that he is injured, you have to believe him”.

If I was a gambler I'd put money on Fabregas playing before McCarthy does, especially since McCarthy was sent home only after undergoing a scan. Del Bosque is a more trusting soul than Roy Keane.

Seems odd that Everton haven't updated us with this as they must know the extent from the scan.

Seeing some rumours on Twitter it was something of nothing.

Anyone on hear have the truth?

Guess the lack of updates means it's not long term!

Really? You think it odd that Everton have left us in the dark about a player's condition?

I know should be used to it haha.

When it's serious they usually tell us straight away like with Barry and Mirallas this season.

Normally the niggles like Coleman, McCarthy, Rom they don't inform us of...
