"Roy Keane is concerned that Everton are exerting ‘pressure’ on their Irish players around Republic of Ireland games and feels a ‘clear the air’ summit with manager Roberto Martinez is required. The Irish No 2 acknowledges Martinez has a duty to his club but feels ‘balance’ is needed regarding the international availability of James McCarthy, Seamus Coleman and Darron Gibson for the remainder of the Euro 2016 campaign.

McCarthy has missed the last three Euro 2016 qualifiers, including Friday’s 1-0 loss to Scotland, but is expected to be fit for Everton’s game against West Ham on Saturday. It follows the events of last month where McCarthy and Coleman both played for their club, only four days after missing the Euro qualifier against world champions Germany."

James being fit for West Ham would be excellent news if true.

And for all Keane's moaning about the Germany game, both mcCarthy and coleman had missed several games for us in the runup to the Germany game, Man utd being the most obvious example, so it wasn't as if they were faking injury. They have both had niggling injuries all season.

Plus we sent McCarthy over to join the Ireland squad - they sent him back.

We paid 13 mil for him, we have to have the pick of when he does and doesn't play.
Sad but, thats the way the game has gone in the UK - club before country

As a general rule that is true for the majority of clubs. But in this instance Keane is talking through his pipe hole. McCarthy was injured which was clear for all to see at the end of the Sunderland game, he was still sent to the squad and returned. Not sure if Keane expected Martinez to take McCarthy off to keep him fresh for the Scotland game. Whenever a player misses an international game it tends to mean they have been out injured before the game with us and very rarely play the next game for us. We've always been honest and upfront when it comes to letting the players represent there country.
