I think were all fully aware given past form that there will be zero money left in January for any players.

We had £9M aparantley in Jan to sign Fer, that seemed to vanish by the summer.

We do it time and time again. I honestly dont know why people still get upset or angry over it. Its like getting pi55ed off when the sun sets every day.

It didn't; it went on Kone and Robles.

We should actually have at the very least £15m left to spend in January

McCarthy - £13m.

Fellaini and Anichebe - £33m.

And that's before we even start to talk about TV money etc. Realistically there should be £20m+ burning a hole in our pocket.

But yes, "other operating costs" is going to take a big hit this year I reckon.

This is pretty much what Dave is talking about tbh but his only mistake was using the word gangsters.

How else do people explain or accept how £20M goes walkabout in 4 months?

We know full well there isnt anywhere near £20M come Jan.

Id genuinely like to know how, with all the players sales etc over the years how our debt continues to grow annually.

Did we get a sharks loan from Wonga.com or something? Were never actually gonna pay the debt back?

People make the mistake of thinking about it as a pot of cash sat there waiting to be spent, when the reality is that in the case of Fer, we never had the fee, we were looking to agree a deal over the contract length of the player so a couple of £m per season.

The bulk of the TV money increase will be received next summer & to suggest that the OOC's will increase pro-rata is akin to what Dave is suggesting, which would be fraud.........

Superbly put. That bullsh*t is still touted as a legitimate excuse.

"Southampton, Cardiff and Norwich can spend so much because our wages are so high!"

It will happen again. Baines and Barkley given extended contracts on 'big money' and we'll say goodbye to that transfer fund/TV money pot.

long term contracts with release clauses.

That's true. It just so happens though that money spent invariably dictates league position attained. And we do have a club CEO adamant that 'every penny available is spent on the team'. We've taken much more in than spent this summer.

Actually, its only Wages spend that invariably dictates league position attained, and not money spent on transfers.

long term contracts with release clauses.

precisely. the release clauses will be about 50p so when we get a bit more than that Billy Boy can shout about he's not allowed himself to be screwed over, when in fact he has allowed himself, and the club to be played like a fiddle.

People think money will be there to be spent in January from the surplus brought in during this summer; people think the extra 25M from the tv deal (finally arriving next summer is it?) is going to be there for the manager next summer.

It's incredible, it really is. All the experience we have of that not happening. At least a dog who gets kicked in the nuts by someone has the good sense to run when they're approached by them a second time.

Its quite simple; x-y, where x=(inputs)income and y=(outputs)expenditure. I don't want to sound condescending but its as basic as it gets; if 'y' is greater than 'x', which in our case it is, then thats how our debt grows.

Now there is obviously massive variables in both arguments; things like player sales, player depreciation, overheads, loans, contracts all affect the overall outcome.

To say 'well we had this much in jan, plus what we've made this summer...wow we'll have millions to spend' is not practical in a commercial world. Income needs to be distributed to allow the business to operate.

Some people don't want to even consider factoring the player wage bill into it, never mind other expenditure so I fear you're going to hit a brick wall.

If people have decided we should have 10m to spend in January and we give Baines a new contract worth an extra £2m / year* this month then they'll argue we should still have 10m to spend
*figure given as an example only

Not all 7 were bought/loaned on the last day; so in theory he'd already spent a 'few bob' prior to Felli being sold. If there is no incomings in Janaury then i'll bow down to you as the wise one. Anyway, only kopites go on about net spend
