This thread's great. When someone starts laying out the digs I'm going to get someone in a headlock like hacksaw jim duggan.

It's just mad the way I'm this monster for pointing out two mistakes he made during play.

You'd swear I'd typed something like this:

Don't rate him mate.

Every time I've seen him play I've been unimpressed. Does the simple things averagely. He plays for Wigan every week. And they are always near the bottom.

Some people rave about him without giving a valid reason. Except he's young.

I rate MacArthur more and wouldn't touch him either.

I'm not sure what you actually mean, but what words are you speaking of exactly?

I'd like to know exactly what you think I've said about the lad.

IMO you're trying too hard to put down one of OUR players. Reserve your judgement until Christmas maybe? Or when he starts a match and is not restricted to a particular role. He did fine when he came on, seems a bit pathetic picking at things when I believe he lost the ball twice in none threatening positions. I'm not saying you don't want to be proved wrong, but you certainly will be.

When Martinez arrived, I must admit that the one saving grace was that James McCarthy may follow. He´s a top young player, very able, giving us depth in central midfield in case of the disastrous scenario where Marouane Fellaini leaves for shores anew.

My words. From July this year.

So... How am I going to be proved wrong?

I like the lad FFS, which I've said about thirty times now. But the fact remains that he played that one yard crab pass and I don't want to see it again, but it was worth pointing out.

Don't see how it was worth pointing out, it's something every player does every match. And, sorry if mistaken, but I recall an earlier message indicating what the other cm next to Barry must have and your description represented McCarthy perfectly. He runs and runs all day which is essential to also let Barry flourish, he's agile, quite quick, his reading of the game is brilliant and the pockets he finds himself in, he's clever with the ball, he does actually offer an attacking threat (though his goal record doesn't prove) and defensively I think he's excellent. Also the argument about paying for a 'certain type of player' he's the player we desperately needed, gives us perfect balance which I 15+ mil potential flop 'creative midfielder' wouldn't.

You haven't answered my initial question - what words will be shoved in my face and how will I be proven wrong?

Given that I actually rate the lad and haven't said a bad word about him like. Because you've wrote the above like I'm arguing the opposite about him or something.

I pointed out two instances of play that gave cause for concern. Davek has pointed out his possible mentality issues - shirking responsibility with a one yard pass to Osman is a worry. Pointing that out doesn't equate to me thinking the lad will flop FFS

Your imagining the old 4-4-2, with a number 6 and number 8 in midfield, we dont play that system, we play 4-2-3-1, with 2 wingbacks bombing on, we require our 2 in midfield to play a less expansive role within the team.

He doesnt tho.

Martinez system is all about 2 water carriers in the middle of the park who win the ball and give it short, the creating role rests soley on the shoulders of the "number 10" and the 2 wing forwards.

Martinez again opted for the 4-2-3-1 formation but instead of having just one man playing deeper in order to collect the ball as they looked to play out from the back, both Barry and Leon Osman were instructed to protect Everton’s backline and combat Chelsea’s flair and creativity going forwards in André Schürrle, Juan Mata and Eden Hazard.
