isnt this whole thing about this one statement?

However, there were instances of play where he was unimpressive that are worth pointing out - his poor pass selection with the through ball to Mirallas, the shirking of responsibility with the pass to Osman, the poor choice to head a ball he should have taken on the chest, the bottling out of a 50/50 etc. If he had done something impressive, I'd be pointing those out too, but I don't think he did anything particularly "well" when he came on other than fill space.

I think the problem is that no one on here actually thinks anything he done in 20 minutes is actually worth pointing out. Because in the whole aspect of the game, most people realise how hard that game would have been to come into and make any sort of real impact.

Regardless of if youve scouted him for the last 10 years and rate him. That paragraph for me, was pointless.

Of course you can point things out based on 20 minutes, because they actually happened!

For example, he made a one yard pass - but by pointing that out, it doesn't mean I think he's doomed to a career of one yard passes!

If I'd had said "oh look, he bottled that tackle, that's it, he's a bottler, nothing is going to shift my opinion, for the next five years he's a bottler no matter what" then I'd understand your position - but I did no such thing.

All hostility aside, I think this is a genuine case of people just not reading what I actually said and assuming I've said something.

RoyalBlueJersey thought I hated McCarthy based on peoples reaction in this thread alone and then was confused when I pointed out I actually rate him and have done for some time. Brennan thought I'd said something insanely bad, went back to read what I actually said and couldn't believe how innocuous it was.

Let's be honest here - you thought I called him a bottler who cannot control a game (you've just used those words). If you can find me saying that anywhere, please let me know, but the truth is you've read into something that just didn't exist.

Even this "time to judge a player" nonsense - look at this in this very thread:

I firmly believe McCarthy will take six months at least to find his footing here.

I'm so glad people are attacking Tubey for his continued abuse of McCarthy.

For a long time, me and Ijjy have been combating him and this uncalled abuse of McCarthy.

Anyway, what's the difference between James McCarthy and a table football player??

The table football player can hit it forward.

Right there.

You're still not getting it. Yes, it happened during those 20 minutes. Yes, I pointed that out. But no, that doesn't mean I think he's a bottler or that I called him a bottler - it means I think he bottled out of ONE challenge.

Look, enough of the point scoring. I actually cant beleive how much having an argument with someone on here gives you so many pos reps haha!

anyway. Honestly, people are entitled to their opinion. My only point is that for me, by taking the whole game into context, the fact he had 2 internationals in a few days and was carrying a knock, being used as a sub etc etc etc...pointing out instances where he was unimpressive is not what I would have done.

God, ive watched Naismith for a year, i sat through 120 minutes of CO Cup football, said he was 5hit and got destroyed. Thats an opinion ive made of Naismiths ability based on watching him for over a year. And i still got slaughtered for it.

we could genuinely argue about it all day and there really isnt any point. You think your right to have concerns and be unimpressed by things he done. I dont even have an opinion based on that 20 minutes for the reasons ive already stated.

Lets compare notes after the west ham game should he start the match, then again after a run of 10 games.

ive said plenty of times in the Barkley thread...imo a player, especially a youngster, needs 10 starts...10 finishes to feel like he belongs in the side and starts showing you his best football. Little things like RM leaving Barkley on and not subbing him all add to this.

If McCarthy starts against west ham and has a mare' feel free to point it out, I know I will. Im also fairly sure people will be open to your suggestions once they have also seen him actually play some football.

His lifestyle choices certainly haven't helped his cause.
