James McCarthy

Serious question above though - do you reckon he should come in for Osman in the next game or maybe a game too soon? Next home game maybe, option off the bench for West Ham?

If he's fully fit after this knock he picked up playing for Ireland last week I think he should start at West Ham. With Pienaar ruled out now for 3-4 weeks and Barkley perhaps shouldn't be playing 90 minutes of every game, I could see Osman being a useful rotation option in the coming weeks but he should be on the bench at West Ham if Barry, McCarthy and Barkley are all fit.

I dunno, though. If McCarthy had come on those 20 minutes and scored a hattrick I'd have an opinion on how he did, so why not the opposite?

Mate, everyone is different. Ive been careful not to wax lyrical about gareth barry too much because im not certain he can do that week in week out. That was an unbeleivable debut.

The main thing i dont get is that if you like a player, youve watched him for 3/4 years and you actually think he will be a great signing for us...why post 3 instances in 20 minutes that unimpress you? I wouldnt have bothered tbh.

Im made up we signed him, ive prob watched him about 10 times in 2 years and happy we got him. Any concerns i had about his performance I would probably just have ignored. But thats just me.

Exactly. In fact, people have been judging him when he was at Wigan, before he signed, the day he signed, based on his performances for Ireland, based on his hair colour etc. etc. All in this very thread by the way.

Yet I'm the monster for pointing out two or three things he did when he actually played football for Everton at Goodison Park!

There's a danger, a real danger, that he will be a passive performer for us, a string of 6/10 performances a la Rodwell. So it's got to be fair to look out for warning signs that that may be the case.

says you in your opinion...but who made you the oracle of football? I watched him be a dog for at least 18 months and i genuinely dont give a 5hit if he got young player of the year by some sort of default.

As a complete aside, it will be nice to see some real competition for the young player award this season. All too often in recent seasons it's been a choice between 2/3 players whereas this season we'll have a few in and around the first team.

See for me tubey what youve done is covered both bases.

So if he turns out to be 5hit...you can say i told you so cos you saw it all in a 20 minute frantic cameo.

If he turns into our version of Roy keane...you were also right because you wanted to sign him and give him 6 months.

No one is saying your a monster for pointing out what he done at Goodison. People just genuinely stunned you could be ar5ed even talking about what he done in 20 minutes at Goodison.

You know what is funny? I haven't said either of those things.

In one paragraph, here's my opinion - I've said I think he could be a decent squad player who is an upgrade on Leon Osman - but he's a player who we overpaid for. To be a success he needs to work on imposing himself on the game at a higher level more often than he did for Wigan, but he's got the potential to do so as he's got the natural talent. The worry is his personality, because in my opinion he has a passive personality akin to Rodwell which may hinder his talent. So when you see him not taking responsibility in possession etc. it's worth keeping an eye on, even if that sort of thing eventually falls out of his overall game.

That's the be all, end all of my opinion. I don't think he's going to be crap; I don't think he's going to be Roy Keane. So what you deem as "covering all bases" is simply me believing he's going to be a slightly above average signing in the long term.

Oh, and I'm talking about the 20 minutes he played at Goodison for Everton because I'm an Evertonian on an Everton forum, talking about an Everton player.

I agree with so much of what your saying. ive said plenty of times I think the only thing stopping him being a top drawer player is himself, he needs to add arrogance and confidence to his game and realise just how good he can be.

Were going round in circles and its utterly pointless. The only issue me (and i think everyone else questioning you had) was the timescale for opinion.

And i still think its a pointless attempt to seem more inteligent about football than the rest of us. But thats just my opinion about you that im basing on an argument thats lasted about 2 hours on a forum. Pretty sure youve now got an opinion about me, pretty sure were both probably wrong

You's are. I'm not though. He's awful.

I don't think I know more than anyone else, but obviously I'm going to be confident in my opinion, otherwise I'd just be trolling.

Let's put it this way, if you said something that in all honesty was pretty mild (certainly MUCH less than things other people have said about McCarthy in this thread) and THIS was the reaction:

Sorry but if that's your opinion then that's ridiculous.

Anyone criticising him, needs to get a grip.

Tubey you melon.

Bloody hell Tubey.

LOL Oh Tubey, ban yourself immediately please and stop being a knob.

Jesus what a bellwiff you are

That comment just about sums up the bollocks you have written.

... You'd have your back up too right?
