OK I did miss his first half as my painkillers for my slipped disc in my neck dozed me off , but 20 minutes in the 2nd half I had to ask my son was MaCarthy playing? then he was subbed?

He was subbed with 20 mins to go as ireland were chasing the game. In the 20 mins he was off Italy created more chances then in the previous 70 because he wasn't there to break up their attacks .

Irish media are constantly making Keane comparisons and it's just wrong. At Everton his job is to break up moves then lay it off, it should be the same for Ireland but we are limited full stop. Who does he lay it off too? I think he will do a job under Koeman as a hard running destroyer. The best players are those who stick to what they are best at and I think Ron will help him find his way again. His performance against Italy stood out because he wasn't playing alongside Whelan, another defensive mid. He ran himself into the ground to protect the defence but crucially, to give the ball into the more creative players. There is certainly a place for him at Goodison.

We are neighbours! His first season wasn't a fluke, he's a good player but needs to be given the correct role.

I think he's a class act but direction required.
Barry will be a lesser influence this year and an attacking mid alongside would be the way forward
