James McCarthy

he actually said 'James McCarthy's future lies with Everton'
No, he didn't. That's what Paul Joyce tweeted, but it isn't what Koeman actually said. This is what I mean about the headlines. What he actually said, word for word was: "He started at the weekend, that is no reason to have doubts about his future with Everton".

Note the use of 'that'. Not "there is no reason to have doubts about his future with Everton", not "hopefully his future will be with Everton" and certainly not "James McCarthy's future lies with Everton", just a comment that playing in our most recent game is not a very good reason for assuming somebody is on their way out.

I'm not saying he will be leaving, just that the quotes were nowhere near as emphatic as you're making out.

You're arguing semantics about someone who doesn't speak English as their first language. RK's English is good but not great. I will take it on face value until proven otherwise.

I'm not arguing anything at all Bud. I'm pointing out that he did not say what someone has just said was a direct quote. As I said, I'm not claiming he'll be leaving, just pointing out that it isn't true to say that Koeman unequivocally said he won't be leaving, which is what was being suggested. I thought that may have stemmed from somebody only reading the headline, so I thought I'd provide a bit more info to show that he might not have been quite as final as some thought. And it turned out I was right, it had come from someone believing a headline. I will continue to provide such public services for as long as necessary. Godspeed.

fair enough. I interpreted them as 'there is no reason to have doubts' as in, he isn't looking to sell him

I didn't mean actual arguing - it's just a turn of phrase.

I am not certain that RK will want to sell James McCarthy.
He knows that playing wing back is a position alien to the player and yet he trusted him to play there.
Last Saturday it was the system that was not working rather than the player being poor and although McCarthy was disappointed to be taken off I don't think it was a reflection of the managers opinion of the player.

Atotally different question however is if McCarthy is happy to be a member of the squad and although will probably play most weeks is not a core player playing in his preferred position...he may want to take the opportunity to go to a team where he is the main man again.

I think some Evertonians are not grasping the squad concept. It is alright to say to get rid of Gibson, McCarthy, Cleverlry, Oviedo and others , but how do you put a group of twenty or more outfield players together who absolutely insist they play every week. It is easier if you have CL football, but we don't have that option...yet.

Yes but McC was clearly pissed off at having to leave the pitch. You don't know how everything transpired after the game and despite what teh Koe said, perhaps he has told McC he is not an automatic first team player and McCa doesnt like that one bit.

Hope he stays to aid the fume levels on here and peoples obsession with seen him sold.
Every thread on here eventually gets turned into the Jimmy mac thread. It's impressive

If McCarthy stays then it probably means we won't be getting another Central Midfielder, which is rather disappointing given all the talk of bringing in the likes of Witsel and Carvalho.

In this day and age - no fee under £20m will buy you James McCarthy.
I think McCarthy and Gueye could be very decent in a holding midfield 2 - both have the defensive qualities, love a tackle and love to press. McCarthy seems a real Koeman player.

I think we need to sell Cleverly, Niasse and McGeady and keep everyone else. Those 3 should bring in £10-15m and clear £150k a week in wages.
