This is why I couldn't understand why Koeman spoke to the papers on this. If McCarthy, or any player for that matter, is injuried the club has the right to withdraw him from international duty. The problems arise when clubs try to withdraw fit players and then play them themselves.

Koeman has done nothing wrong. In fact, neither have any of the parties.

I like Ireland - I would rather see them do well than England - but it was evidently clear that, despite our warnings to the contrary, McCarthy wasn't fit the last time they picked him.
