Martinez picked him because he bought him for 13mil. Would be surprised he gets many games now, baring injuryIt's funny that loads on here claim McCarthy is awful yet the managers who have him in their squad choose him so often though. Martinez picked him when available, Koeman has slotted him in whenever there has been opportunity and he's a regular for Ireland.
I think it also speaks volumes of those sides too because if they were much better teams then McCarthy wouldn't need to be in the starting line up. We need a creative midfielder alongside Gueye and Barry in my opinion. Barkley has his strengths, but we can't rely on him as our Arteta type player.
Mate get off the fence.Only 40 more days till we can sell this cowardly no mark

Mate both LVG and Mourinho have hardly played Schneiderlin who is a very good player, instead opting to play Fellaini as a defensive midfielder when he is absolutely terrible there, sometimes managers make strange decisions on playing players, Osman playing on the wing for the best part of 2-3 seasons for Moyes, Neville being Captain and first name on the team sheet when he could barely run near the end, Shoehorning Lescott in ahead of Baines at left back, the list could go on for ever really.
Agree what you said about showing the quality of the teams though, in a squad with a good starting 11 and depth then i honestly couldn't see McCarthy getting near it, which highlights our problem, we don't have a good starting 11 and we very much lack any depth to the squad
I know you like like him. We had plenty of heated discussion's last year about himMartinez bought Niasse for £13.5mil and barely played him...
McCarthy is literally the embodiment of a 'Martinez player'. Safe, (to an extent where it is stopping him progressing) but hard-working.
I like Jimmy Mac, but he's just not what we need to improve us.

I've never rated him. You also seem to stick up for Coleman
Are you Irish by any chance
@Stoke City
Ok and I will remind you of one of our better moves on Saturday, early in the 2half Barkley plays him in. And Coleman under no pressure the nearest Swansea defender is 3yards away.No I'm not Irish.
And I stick up for Coleman as he's one of our best players and the stick he gets is ridiculous. Not hit his heights we know he can for a while, but looked a lot better this season than he did last year.
Remind me who scored the goal on Saturday?
I don't mind McCarthy and tbh I think we may well need him when Gueye goes to ACON.
But, he just looks like he's going through the motions and overall he doesn't offer enough to us to help us get back to where we want to be.
Have to disagree here mate. Fellaini in an effective player behind the forward but that's it imo.Fellaini has been superb in holding midfield for most of the games he's played there this season.
Football is all about partnerships - Fellaini and Herrera is a very good one, for example.
We don't really have a decent partnership bar Bolasie and Rom. As good as Gueye and Barry are individually, our midfield rarely dominates games.

It's such an easy ball to play into the box, just outside the 6yard line for in the rushing lukaku.
But Coleman hits the Swansea defender. Absolutely shocking
But that sums the lad up. 9 times out of 10 his final ball is pants.
I don't care that he gives 100% and fights for the shirt.
He costs us goals on a regular basis, and going forward hes poor.
But let's remember he only cost us 60k so it's all good

It's all opinions mate. And in my opinion Coleman is a limited footballer and average defender.Baines didn't hit an Everton player once....every corner hit the first or second man....but hey he takes a guitar to always and has an great haircut.
*vomits*Allen is much better and all.
