Fellaini has been superb in holding midfield for most of the games he's played there this season.

Football is all about partnerships - Fellaini and Herrera is a very good one, for example.

We don't really have a decent partnership bar Bolasie and Rom. As good as Gueye and Barry are individually, our midfield rarely dominates games.

Fellaini really hasn't mate, don't know a single manc who thinks he should be playing, also when he does play pogba looks way poorer that when he has someone else playing the role.

Have to disagree here mate. Fellaini in an effective player behind the forward but that's it imo.

Herrera, Pogba, Carrick- that's a decent partnership.

Bloody love Pogba BTW. in 12 months he will be laughing his head off at the current detractors.

Spot on post that, agree with it all.

The Mancs have never liked him mate but if you look at his performances over the past two seasons he's been one of their best players.

Personally I agree that the holding role isn't his best role, but when he's been in there with Herrera he's looked decent.

Don't think Pogba's form is anything more than a new player (albeit a good one) being overhyped and unaccustomed to the pace of the league mate, personally.

Ok and I will remind you of one of our better moves on Saturday, early in the 2half Barkley plays him in. And Coleman under no pressure the nearest Swansea defender is 3yards away.

It's such an easy ball to play into the box, just outside the 6yard line for in the rushing lukaku.
But Coleman hits the Swansea defender. Absolutely shocking

But that sums the lad up. 9 times out of 10 his final ball is pants.
I don't care that he gives 100% and fights for the shirt.

He costs us goals on a regular basis, and going forward hes poor.
But let's remember he only cost us 60k so it's all good

He hasn't cost us one goal this season, but okay.

Fair enough.

It's horses for courses.

Against Liverpool for example, Fellaini was excellent yet Pogba failed to show...

Like I said to Stevon, I'm not saying Fellaini is a holding mid, but whenever I've watched him there (this season, so 4-5 times) he's done just fine to okay, which is more than can be said for Pogba.

That being said, Pogba will find his feet soon enough I'm sure - and yes it does help they're now playing a 3 man midfield which suits him a but more - though I do question the talent of a £90mil signing if he's only effective in one system...

Walsh is supposedly a huge fan/user of analytics mate, likely why he had Gueye at the top of his list and made it the first signing soon after he arrived, notable thing for me is that Gueye actually seems to be one of the few players we have that udnerstands how to press in games as well, which when the rest of the team doesn't seem to have a clue means often he is having to almost do it alone - and thats 100 times harder to do effectively, genuinely think he is the player we should look to build this team around, he's a lynchpin and one of the few who seems to show he is up for the game no matter what is happening around him

I think we can almost totally gut the midfield in Jan/summer. We cant build the team around Gueye but we should have him permanently at DM with Davies competitng / alternating with him to keep fitness levels high.

We need to bring in a superstar next to him and an understudy.

He's absolutely whack, isn't he? Could do a job as a tackler alongside two quality creative midfielders for a team looking to take a point from every game, but that's not us. Surely sell him if anybody offers a decent fee, basically anything around what we paid for him or slightly less.

I really don't think Davies is anywhere near the level of Gueye therefore without the League Cup against "weaker" teams, I can't see any games where you'd be happy leaving him on the bench and playing our floppy-haired, sockless starlet.

I agree that we need to supplement Gueye though, absolutely.

Fellaini has always been crap as a holding midfielder and this season is no exception. The United fans quite rightly think he is a liability in central midfield, and he hasn't even made their bench recently.

More important than some superstar etc signing is just finding a very good player whose game compliments gueye and vice versa, and hopefully get the centre mid purring and the entire team will up a level.

In games where he is solely in there to break up the play and hassle attackers, he's done well.

In games where Utd are/have been on top then yeh he should be (and hasn't been for a while) anywhere near their starting XI.
