Of course I hope he gets better, but he's been awful for us this year with the exception of the Man U match. It's not entirely his fault since he's being asked to be more than the simple defensive mid he is, but that shouldn't cloud the fact that we should support him like any other player in these circumstances.

I'm sure the posters who class Mccarthy as Scottish also would class Sterling as Jamican actually.
Same as Froome, Wiggins, Farah, Pietersen etc etc

I still don't understand why it's a big deal that he's born and raised in Scotland but also has Irish links in his family. Based on what I've read he would have chosen his home country if they came calling first. Scotland didn't and Ireland did. I mean as an American I fully understand that some of those Germans we ran out would have played for Germany if they were good enough. Instead they had family links to the US and seized that opportunity.

No idea why it's even an issue to say James is a Scottish fella that plays for Ireland. Factually it is correct.

Anyway, I hope him the best in his recovery. I miss that player we had in 13/14 who literally seemed to be everywhere to cover things up.

The whole religious thing genuinely didn't even cross my mind.
I always found it odd he's Scottish but plays for Ireland.

And I always found it odd that John Barnes is Jamaican and Terry Butcher South African and Owen Morgan Irish and they all played for and some captained England but that’s their choice and their choice alone and it impacts on me in no way

To me McCarthy has a game similar to Roy Keane back in the day albeit less effective I grant you.

Memory says Keane came back to a decent standard after his major injury so hopefully James can do the same.
