Just had a random funny thought..

Seamus Coleman, Killybegs lad who we bought from Sligo for £60k, is going to be the captain of one of the biggest names in world football this coming season lol
I'm Irish and I love Seamus, but that's really part of the problem we need to fix. With the best will in the world, Seamus is finished. He's lost his place in our worst national team in 50 years, and he really needs to be thanked and quietly disposed of behind the next dumper truck if we are truly going to move on in the coming season. A fine servant, but the only place for sentiment should be in the sponsored lounge - which is where Seamus should be regaling the fans from now on.

It's worth the risk. For sure.

I remember under Walter, during his 2nd/3rd season we had a really good run. It was really coming together, a good blend of seaoned pro's (Gough to a degree Gazza, Campbell, Hutchison, Barmby, Weir, Stubbs, Gravesen, Xavier etc) blended with some good younger players- Jeffers, Ball, Dunne etc.

It all fell apart a bit. A big reason was that Smith really didn't know how to man manage younger players so we flogged them all. However anotehr eason was the money just kept running out. He constantly had to sell players to buy new ones in. His eye for transfers, and experience around the game was good. I can understand why his Rangers team was so good as well, as he could just keep buying.

I do think both of the above aren't so comparable here. Ancelotti is like a major upgrade on the best qualities of Smith but a similar style. Great contact book, knows a player, likes experienced hardened footballers. We do seem to have a tap of money thats made available, even if Moshiri does little else he puts his money where his mouth is. So we can keep a team together more easily.

This approach, of adding winners, and experienced players and supplementing it with some academy graduates feels the right ploy for the club. Some seem to have it intheir heads we can just emulate RB Leipzig. We've had a go at it and it's not worked.

Really, really hoping he has a stormer this season because, as much as I want us to improve on the pitch, it'll also shut the traps of the social media keyboard warriors who're convinced he's finished.

Yep, he's so far from finished, finished players don't play for bayern and real madrid. His fitness is the only concern, not his ability. But i don't worry about that he could play on one leg against some of the defences in this league.
