Supposedly he'll be back for Man City, the club have said the rumours of it being to cold for him to play are ridiculous, the club have also said they have a new Everton match day shirt for him to wear but are waiting for Hummel to sew on new badges etc.

He's on less money here than he was on at Real Madrid.

He could have had significantly more "down time" at Real Madrid - he couldn't get a game.

He carried on playing for Everton with a busted testicle.
Whatever he had in the past, this is a calf injury.

This is the 3rd year on the bounce he's had long lay offs over Christmas and the new year. Which makes it a pattern.

My take on it his signing always been that I understand a player like him will come here with no pressure to turn out every week, that's how you get him to a club in our position; which is worth it, as long as the period he has off doesn't make it completely useless signing him.

Is he turning out to be a dud, who signed him?

Not like you to see things that aren’t really there.

No, he isn't a dud. He's the reverse of a dud. He's been exceptional when he's played and that's the type of player Ancelotti - not Brands - can think of bringing in.

It's possible to say that AND state that the player will get a lot of time off from playing while here...which only becomes an issue when either A/ his level of play drops off markedly, or B/ the amount of games he plays is severely limited.

If he is not putting in the number of games we need him for, then a replacement is needed who can put effective game time. That is the realty.
