I don't get this, we all knew his injury problems, very well documented. We all accepted he probably wouldn't be playing for Everton if he didn't suffer these injuries. It's disappointing and we never get to see a fully fit James but just enjoy him when he does play because he does damage. He does more and causes more attacking threat in the games he does play than all the others without him.

He obviously has some sort of anatomical/physiological problem that is causing these injuries time and again, the body can cause all sorts of problems if it isn't in sync with itself. I don't know what it is, just accept that his injuries are the reason he is here at all.
This basically

It's played out as I expected but he's still the classiest player I've seen in an Everton shirt and I've been watching us since the early 70s.

Just hope we get to see a lot more of him over the next couple of years.

he's currently started 57% of our league games this season

if he misses the burnley game that drops down to 55%

he's on course to probably only start half of our league games this season

the only way i can see him staying beyond next season is if we bring in another creative player to fill the void whilst he is absent

at the moment our next most creative player is sigurdsson who 90% of this forum despises and whose contract is up next summer.

in many ways this summer needs huge investment in a right back, right winger, a backup striker and a creative midfielder

This is why I want a RF and a AM. He can play in either when fit when he isn't we have players to bring in.

I agree with all of this but the notion ( held by many fans ) that we should build a team around James is rendered obsolete when this is factored into the equation.

Its a real shame we can't play our world class free transfer every game and that he isn't some injury free, juiced up monster that plays every minute of 60 games a season.

Injuries happen at the best of times. This season, with the insane schedule and limited/restricted training sessions, including a massively reduced Pre season that James took no part in, has caused countless injuries and niggles, not just within this squad, but across the league, even within some of the most dubiously healthy squads.

Certain types of players are also more predisposed to injuries. James, with a slight frame and as a particular target for physicality to try and counter his obvious superior ability, is always going to suffer with that.

Add to all of that, the adaptation to a new league, arguably the most physically demanding in Europe, and yes, its a complete shock that he hasn't been an ever present.

Anyone whinging about him missing a few games needs to write this next sentence on the back of their hand and look at it every time they want to sulk about something they/we have no control over.

We signed James Rodriguez on a free transfer and he helped us beat the RS at the pit.

Fantastic player. I'm more indulgent of him than a lot of other players, just because of what he brings to the team. Just to see his name on the team sheet certainly gives me a boost. In an ideal world he wouldn't miss a game but if we got 20 league games a season out of him I'd be happy.

Keep him for the FA cup.. 3 more games this season.. COYB

You can surely understand the frustration though, as we're not only within touching distance of something special (CL qualification) but we're also crying out for creativity at the moment. I can certainly forgive people for wishing he would drag us to those heights by virtue of his sheer talent. I remember reading that in November when the team were flying, he was 3rd in the PL assists league table with 3 in a fairly short space of time. Since then, he hasn't played as often and the team has stagnated. If you look at the assist league table now, he has added just 1 more to his tally and sits in 24th place alongside Gylfi while Kane leads the way with 13 assists.

If you look at some of his peers, Kevin de Bruyne has 11 assists, Bruno Fernandes and Grealish have 10, with Son on 9. If James had continued his early season form then we'd be a completely different proposition, but he hasn't, in large part due to fitness problems, and we're left trying to grind out wins largely through set piece goals.

It looks like Colonbia dont have any fixtures this international break as they are showing as postponed for me.

Hopefully that is the case and James can really benefit from it and come back firing afterwards.

So vague every time about James. No idea why no real information is given about him. Hopefully this extended break will see him return available for the final 7/8 games, but that seems doubtful.

South Amercian games are off so he won't be travelling.

It's very frustrating at the minute, but we knew this was always likely. If we can keep him fit consistently for the last 10 games, we can finish well.
