Player Valuation: £30m
No one else in our squad has the ability or composure to finish like he did tonight.
I thought he was MotM.

We aren't building a team around him though? Even if he's only fit for 50% of matches per season, he can/will have a huge impact. We can try to build a team around Dom/Richy but we'd have to build something amazing to not consider him as an excellent option. He is a problem when he is getting injured every other game, i mean you can't build any kind of team around someone like that regardless of how good they are especially when they are your only source of creativity.
You're chatting a load of fluff, to be honest.Well, I do not think I said we should invest in player types like Gylfi? What I am saying is that now that we have ambitions for the top four, we need to buy players who have the attributes of the football required at the top level. It also means that we buy players that we can plan with for 3-4 years, and who have not yet peaked.
The reason I chose JR is that he is considered our star player, and is considered the top contributor to get us to CL. He falls outside these criteria. If we are to become a top club, we must think like a top club, not have the mindset of a small club.
He is the only player who creates anything though, Digne is not an option for me, so yes we are building around him in a sense and also because of his complete lack of pace we have to work that into the team and make amendments for that. Don't get me wrong he is a good player but i'm not fanboying over him like most on this site seem to.We aren't building a team around him though? You're placing him on an impossible pedestal: To be a star player who will win game after game for us single-handedly, meanwhile trying to argue that we need a team full of qualities to rival the best. Trying to focus on his faults to excuse the failings of those around him.
Look, its really simple. We have James for another couple months, maybe another season if we're lucky. Do you honestly believe we can make a team in that timeframe to which James Rodriguez would be considered a downgrade?
The answer is obviously no.
Well, the goal is to create a competitive team that will compete for the top four? Do you think that it is a clever strategy to bring in players who are not considered good enough for the top clubs in Europe to compete with these clubs? You're chatting a load of fluff, to be honest.

But that's the problem. If you want to create a competitive team, your best players must be injury-free for large parts of the season. Especially a club like Everton that does not have many to choose from. Therefore, we must be extra careful about who we invest in.Let’s be real, if he was fit for 38 games every season he wouldn’t be here right now.

Maybe not an investment, but it's money out of the budget. It is hoped that this money will pay off in the form of games in Europe. It's not charity. But a strategy to make the club competitive. Personally, I like watching JR play football, he's the little entertainment on the team, but I see it as an unsuitable strategy to bring in players like him to make Everton competitive against the best. Although Everton have decided to return to Serie A in the 70's, the rest of the football world emphasizes high-intensity football. B Munich, Manchester City, Liverpool, etc., have determined the level and we have to match it.He was a free signing on a wage similar to the likes of Tosun. He’s not an investment; he’s an unreal football player who only needs 60 mins on the pitch to do the damage then go put his feet up. The rest of the squad needs to step up and help him out so we can manage his minutes better. He could have come off at half time today if our strikers could shoot.

Let me first say, the chances of my arguments being wrong are quite high (This applies pretty much all the time). So going back to last Summer do you wish we hadn’t signed this “bad investment” player?
Mate James is our best player. Yes he doesn’t work hard enough off the ball, but just look at his stats. The goals, assists and chances created in the limited time on the pitch. He’s far and away our best creative player. I’d much rather the likes of him in our team then the likes of Iwobi, Gomes and Siguardisson who are considered flair players but flatter to deceive and offer very little.Maybe not an investment, but it's money out of the budget. I would not invest in Allan or JR. Instead, I would look at completely different player profiles in other age groups.
