JR is a fantastic footballer, but he is not relevant for any top clubs in Europe. The reason is simple: He lacks the necessary intensity in his game, too often slightly injured, and is too expensive. If we are to build a competitive squad, he is the type we must steer clear of.
I do wonder what kind of spaghetti brain people must have to look at Rodriguez and think he/his 'type' are a problem instead of a privilege.

I see those weirdos who said we’d never see him again and he doesn’t want to be here or even that he’s not that good have moved on to saying he definitely won’t be here next season now...

He knew what he was signing up for and he and Carlo know there will be more investment for next season. He proved again today that when at least 80% fit he’s our best player and we were yet again let down by poor finishing.

Ok, my point is this: The biggest clubs do not invest in players where the curve is pointing downwards, struggling with injuries, and struggling with an intense style of play. This has been the trend in international football. We have to get there too.

JR is a fantastic player, in many of the phases, and there are very few players who have his spatial abilities. That said, the game has become much more physical over the last ten years. Football mostly consists of high intensity sprints, especially PL, and this is not JR's great strength. If you want to have a chance on the top stage, you must have ten outfielders who all do this.

So according to you we need 10 outfielders to run around a lot, and you pick James as the problem rather than Davies/Sigurdsson/Gomes who definitely don't have the attributes for 'high intensity' play and lack his ability on the ball?
Out of all the problems we have, James is not one of them. He is far from a problem.

Blaming James for not tracking back is like me blaming Michael Keane because his passing in attacking 1/3 is awful.

I mean I get it. He can't defend, sometimes gives the ball away and has the occasional errant pass that starts a counter going the other way. He doesn't run all day like Godfrey. b/c he's a sick note we cant really build the club around him.

However he pops up w/ goal and gives you at the minimum 2 very good scoring chances. Something no one on this club is capable of. Plus its not like we play HeAvY MeTaL Fo0tBo0l, we're "pragmatic" and should always have enough good players back to cover so he can do his thing.

He is a problem when he is getting injured every other game, i mean you can't build any kind of team around someone like that regardless of how good they are especially when they are your only source of creativity.

Well, I do not think I said we should invest in player types like Gylfi? What I am saying is that now that we have ambitions for the top four, we need to buy players who have the attributes of the football required at the top level. It also means that we buy players that we can plan with for 3-4 years, and who have not yet peaked.

The reason I chose JR is that he is considered our star player, and is considered the top contributor to get us to CL. He falls outside these criteria. If we are to become a top club, we must think like a top club, not have the mindset of a small club.

James is class when hes in the mood for it.he started and finished the move that ended in a goal.when coleman was about to cut the ball back for him my thought was only james is scoring through all them bodies the finish was superb.. I had no cinfidence in anybody else slotting from there. They either just smash it in to the crowd of players or row z or side netting.

Yes all the small clubs appoint Carlo and sign James.

So calm on the ball. No one else in the squad gives us that quality. Gomes flatters to deceive.

And yes, maybe he is not the all round athelete or his injury record might be a worry, but he gives us so much that others in our squad can't.

Don't forget, he is a genuine big name player. He may also be a draw in and of himself when trying to tempt talent to join us.

Well, that speaks for itself. Neither Ancelotti nor JR were relevant for any top clubs, and that is precisely because they do not meet the criteria for the high-intensity football required to win at the top level. Both are considered to be on a downward curve. This is how top clubs think.

However, this does not mean that they do not necessarily contribute to making us better, but our baseline is not very high. Many here will consider a 7-8 place as progress. That is far from the reality in a top club.
