Mate James is our best player. Yes he doesn’t work hard enough off the ball, but just look at his stats. The goals, assists and chances created in the limited time on the pitch. He’s far and away our best creative player. I’d much rather the likes of him in our team then the likes of Iwobi, Gomes and Siguardisson who are considered flair players but flatter to deceive and offer very little.
I do not care about individual players, but about the team. Rooney was the top scorer when he was here in the 2017-2018 season, and was the individual best player. We came in 8th place that season. But it is an unwise strategy to rely on players who are on their way down in their careers. We only affirm mediocrity.

Maybe not an investment, but it's money out of the budget. It is hoped that this money will pay off in the form of games in Europe. It's not charity. But a strategy to make the club competitive. Personally, I like watching JR play football, he's the little entertainment on the team, but I see it as an unsuitable strategy to bring in players like him to make Everton competitive against the best. Although Everton have decided to return to Serie A in the 70's, the rest of the football world emphasizes high-intensity football. B Munich, Manchester City, Liverpool, etc., have determined the level and we have to match it.
Mate. You need to let it go , in my opinion.
He is not "expensive" compared to some of the absolute dross that we have here.
He is not ultra mobile , but he is ultra class.
Name another player since Kanchelskis , that we have had since that could even compare ?.
You simply cannot whinge about "working back etc., when he has that much class (and I am a Moyes devotee , from the past !).

If you think James is mediocre because his best years are behind him, then heaven help the rest of the team.

It's not just about tracking back, but it's about pressure, covering space, creating space, etc. When I demonstrate to young players the importance of constantly scanning the pitch, I show examples of JR. I rate him highly, but that's not my point. I think the strategy is wrong. By the way, I rate both Rooney and Etoo as better football players.

Not JR, but the strategy of buying players who have a downward curve, and designing the game / or relying on them too much, is the recipe for this.
Yeah so we ship out James to satisfy the 'intensity' critics and... what? Just go out and buy a couple James Maddisons?
Easy this football lark.

None of your arguments are grounded in reality.

Is that really our strategy though? We signed 4 players last summer, only one of them fits that strategy. And that one just happens to be one of the most skilful footballers on the planet.

Allan does too. And Doucoure is certainly closer to the downside than the up.

James is worth it of course but I'm not sure about the others.

He is the only one who seems to have a picture in their mind before they receive the ball, he opens up the play so much for us hes brilliant. Just need him fully fit every game.

I actually feel sorry for him having to play with some of the players we have haha
