If he's also genuinely injured and can't train for the match, what is the point in him being there? To turn up and go well done mate and then go home?

He could have done that already in private - perhaps by phone. People are making a mountain out of a mole hill because they want to rant about something.

It's not ideal by any stretch of the imagination, but life isn't ideal and nor has this season.
I'm sorry but you are trying way too hard to excuse him from what really was a piss poor decision not to show up to the first home game in ages where fans could attend. Especially as he wasn't available for the Arsenal and Chelsea games. It's the players' duty and he couldn't be arsed. If there are genuine reasons why he couldn't attend then they need to be clearly communicated otherwise the fans will, rightfully, be aggrieved.

Think of the context of this season as well, people have had a really shitty year. And I'm a huge fan of the player as well. It really clashes with the ethos of the club and we deserve better.

The players wont care, as they know he makes them better.

Alex Ferguson famously gave certain players more latitude than others at United; was seldom a problem.

Tbf though mate Fergie never had to call his group of players out as being cowards!

I just think it doesn't look good in the same week as publically calling out your squad as being lazy cowards to then let James bugger off early as he is "tired".

The fact he wasn't modelling the new away kit sends alarm bells though as I said yesterday why wouldn't you have your most marketable player modelling the new kit?

Wouldn't be suprised if he isn't here come next season.

Only time he's gone back was for international duty, where everyone was under strict COVID protocols as clubs were reluctant to send players away for games, so he won't have seen them

Let's not forget about that
Was there not pictures of him and his family together on New Years eve?

I'm not criticising him - I'd be amazed if he hadnt seen his kid in over a year. I certainly couldn't do it.

He called them feeble, light weight, and afraid of winning.

Kinda amounts to the same thing.

Duty to attend a game if he's not fit enough to play? Do you mean to sit in the stands for the fans sake or to play through an injury for their sake?

The club have given a reason - he was jaded. Now, that may be a different discussion entirely but if the club have decided to accept he isn't fit then there it is.

While I do to an extent agree with your last two sentences, I also feel that the club have to consider the wider context of his fitness and next season.

You may think it's making excuses, fair enough; personally, I feel it's more along the lines of being calm and rational rather than being needlessly angry.
