YES - Undoubtedly he’d have fared better if we’d had better players around him, but at this stage should we be concerned with building a team around a player who is almost certain to leave after the coming season anyway?!

We signed him because the stars aligned and we COULD, but after a beautiful glimpse of what could have been over the first few games of the season, it all just went a bit poo.

I’m saying if we accept that he’d improve if we bought players better suited to playing with him, can we justify that outlay if he’s likely to be gone after a year and then we’re left with more disparate parts of a puzzle that we’d need another James-esque player to complete?

It was RUMOURED we were going to extend his deal?! Blow me down! Not a chance he stays beyond the coming season, if even that. Vault me.

I've posted the stats in here.

We've got more minutes out of him than in four of the last eight seasons, and those three seasons he had more in were 13-14 at Monaco, 14-15 at Madrid and 16-17 at Bayern. We all knew we'd do well to get 25 games out of him. We've got 26, 24 of them being starts.

Our frustration comes when he isn't fit because our attack is so reliant on him. That isn't an issue with James, that's an issue with how we play, our management, tactics and other recruitment.

We did it with Lukaku. People happy to see the back of players who are actually world class and could push us on if complimented with the right players, and then on the other hand they moan when we're served up dross, or have to play Sigurdsson 45 times a season.

Played 43 times for Bayern in 2 seasons
Played 85 times for Madrid in 4 seasons

Played 23 times for us in 1 season, if he does that again, then he's hit his Bayern figure.

Apart from his 1 season at Monaco where he played 34 times in 1 season, he doesnt tend to play a full fixture list.

They may have had players good enough to 'carry' him, most of our players can barely carry themselves

Everton should stay away from faded ex stars. It has never worked and it will never work. Gascoigne, Ginola, Rooney Rodriguez, Eto are only bad for motivation, cohesion, and bank balance!

Agree but thats not really the point. People are reactivibg like he's not assed as its Everton - he wouldnt be injured or go home early at Real or Bayern.

When in fact his stats show he's hardly ever played 38 games a season, regardless of where he's been so its not just as he's here.

He is just one of them players that needs managing.
