Well, hang on.

You're saying Rodriguez is receiving favouritism.

If the player is injured, if the player has been unable to play, then there's no favouritism there.

We don't know, we can only read between the lines.

With regards to you saying blame Ancelotti - ultimately, if a player claims they aren't fit, there's not a lot a manager can do.

If the player isn't feeling it, feels 'tired' - you're not going to get a committed performance from that player.

That, and the player only has to 'pull up' in a warm up. Aston Villa? He was also then meant to be fit in the games that followed, but nope. Not even on the bench, ruled out of contention days before. Strange...

For me, the manager has really upped the narrative about players having a poor attitude and not being committed.

In the same conversations, he's told different media outlets that Rodriguez has been too tired to play, and his focus is now on Colombia.

Again, we can only read between the lines and second guess but I've gone from laughing off some claims on Rodriguez to thinking "Hang on..."

All that said, if Ancelotti is favouring him - then he can't be surprised at an attitude problem from his players and a lack of commitment. If the players see other players not committed, it'll rub off.

I don't think that's the case though. If it was, I don't think Ancelotti says he's not playing because he's tired, or keep mentioning Colombia. Especially in the same conversation when condemning player attitude and commitment.
I think a big factor in figuring out what’s really going on, and what Carlo really thinks, has to be how well Ancelotti knows James.

He’s not only just figuring him out, as he has been all the other players bar Allan. He knows those two well. I don’t think anything about their attitude, application or fitness will surprise him.

I had considered this, but wondered if playing for Real Madrid in his peak, vs Everton in 'no mark' games could be considered different... Especially with retirement looming (Rodriguez recently saying he will retire soon), and Copa America on the horizon.

I think if we're all honest - we'd have to be mugs to think Rodriguez hasn't decided to prioritise Copa America.

It is what it is, let's not try and blag it because it's James Rodriguez.

It just comes at the same time there's an Everton manager and fans condemning players being bad pricks.

so mr glass is going to miss the man city game why am i not suprised

copa america starts 13th june 2020

euro's start 11th june 2020

surely richarlison will want to get some prep for brazil

maybe DCL wants to get some prep for england

maybe digne wants to get some prep for france

maybe pickford wants to get some prep for england

its becoming a farce now

I will say one thing, it's astonishing to me, especially as an outsider, how theres seemingly almost nothing of an offseason for footballers. In the States the main sports have minimum 4-5 months off to recuperate and such. Not saying I want no football for 4 months but it's seemingly weeks off for some. I've no clue how the body can recuperate that quickly and then go back to training.

As soon as the season ends a bunch of players are going to start training with their countries, most will play for another month or so and then have 3 weeks "off" before rejoining their clubs to get ready for a new season.

Nothing to do with James, just something that I've always found not right. But maybe something to do with James, maybe a whole summer off would do him and his calf good?

I think it has to be different, yes. Not only because Everton aren’t Real Madrid, but because of where James is at in his career now versus then.

Carlo brought him in knowing all of that, and knowing his character much better than any of us. I honestly don’t think anything about James will be surprising him.

I mean, I don’t know the guy but I’m not surprised by his relative enthusiasm for Copa America over our anticlimactic end of season.

This was a very ill judged post, from an entitled, indulged 'superstar' player. Was it disrespectful to the club? Yes, of course. Was it intentionally disrespectful to the club? Probably not, players at his level of fame lose all touch with reality.

Having said that, he is our best player, by a country mile, and, if his fitness and attitude were perfect, he would never be playing for us anyway.

I love watching him, he is a magician. I am getting a bit fed up with his attitude though. On balance, I would put up with his attitude if we get 20 plus games from him.next season.

I think Carlo has been guilty of being too optimistic regarding his (and others) fitness, perhaps he because he knows how limited the squad is and how dependant we are on certain players, and possibly because he doesn't want the James signing to end up being a gamble that didn't pay off.

This is assuming Carlo was instrumental in bringing him here, but I think most of us agree James wouldn't be here if not for Carlo. If James leaves in the summer (unlikely imo) or struggles with fitness even more next season (I hope he doesn't but he's not going to get fitter with age) it won't reflect well on the manager or the club, but you also can't just make fitness issues go away. But would Carlo after working with him extensively at Real and Bayern suddenly find James' attitude isn't up to it? If that were the case it's a huge mistake on his part helping bring James here.

I've held this view all season, until last Thursday.

I think Ancelotti has hung him out to dry a bit with his comments, and that could suggest he's a bit irked.

But as I keep saying - only trying to read between the lines. I've not got a clue - really.

Definitely.

If fitness.

Not sure that opinion holds though if commitment/attitude is the issue.

It's not an issue in isolation is my whole point mate.

It gets to a point though were you start to think "Hang on..."

Just all feels a bit odd to me.

If Carlo thinks James is worth the issues he keeps him, if he thinks it's detrimental to us as a club he will be booted. We have to have faith in the managers decisions, this may have been difficult with Martinez and Silva but not with Ancelotti.
