2020/21 James Rodriguez

It's sad on a personal level for James but from an Everton point of view him not being able to play for Colombia is sound. He's still injured but wanted to play through that risking further damage and more time out. We need him in the side and he should be spending the summer recovering, we aren't in any kind of position to be carrying players no matter how good they are.

Pretty sad that some are happy he is out of a major tournament through injury, I bet most are the same ones up in arms with him slinking off early in the first place. Surely this proves he wasn't faking it?

Damned if you do damned if you don't I'm afraid James. Sorry about us.

I mean according to James himself he’s not badly injured enough to miss the tournament and could play from the second fixture onwards, so are you calling him a liar? Or is it the Colombian FA that are lying?

I find it ironic lads moaning about James saying “oh he’s no where near as good as X player was 40 odd years ago”. Exactly, we haven’t had a player like him in so long that you have to go back that far to see someone of his genuine quality.

Funny how it went from he’s just faking injury so he can play international games to oh he’s actually injured well that’s because he’s so injury prone why’d we even get him. I swear some people just wind me up.

In terms of our squad he and Mina are the same for me. Both far and away the best players we have in their positions but aren’t fit every week so people slate them. We literally got one of the worlds best players on the ball, for free, at Everton, in a poor spell of success. If he was able to be fit every week he’d still be at Madrid, even Atletico wanted him as well last year and they just won the league for god sake.

Why are we as a fan base so adverse to good players? Legitimately? People talk up Tom Davies running around the place or Michael Keane having a run of 10 good games when players like James and Mina are almost always consistently very good they just have injury issues. Madness to me honestly.

I honestly do think it’s a fear of not getting success for some. As in some lads would hate to be in the race for Top 4 or a cup final because they’d hate the feeling of losing out in the end, they’d prefer we were just crap so at least then they’d have a reason to moan.

From day one there’s been certain people who’ve routinely talked nonsense about Moshiri, Brands, Carlo and James. All different aspects of the club but all negative slants taken on all and all by the very same people. Boggles my mind, I’m in my 20s I’ve never seen us win a thing, I don’t know what I’ll do when we win something but I know it’s gonna come under Carlo, I believe it. Maybe some others should start to have a bit of belief as well, better than constantly being negative.
Mate, you’re preaching to the choir: haters will hate; Evertonians will wet the bed. Some of the grown men on here must be unbearable on a Christmas morning.

But kids, yes you’ve saved up months to buy me a nice new top but it’s the wrong shade of royal blue. It’s a disgrace. Kenwright out. Dyche in.

He may think he can play but perhaps the doctors know it will aggravate it and he will then be out for a few games afterwards? Tournament football where you play more games in a condensed period isn't suited to a reoccurring injury. Or perhaps he failed a fitness test and they know he is going to be a passenger. I have no idea how many games are going to be played at altitude that could make that even more crucial.

Wanting and thinking you can play is totally different to being physically able to play 5-10 games in a month. So I don't think either parties have to be lying.

Nooo. There has to be a liar. This forum demands it.

I wonder if he has the heart to work hard, get fit and force his way back into the national team. If he feels like his Colombia career is over then I wouldn't be surprised to see him retire.
Retirement looks imminent. Or competing at the very top at least. His body is shot.

Amazing some of the whinging regarding James’s fitness (some going as far as calling him lazy, or faking injury). He was a free signing for a reason. A 29 year old with world class ability in prime condition wouldn’t be here.

Since the 2016 season he has played 22, 8, 23, 20 and 23 league games. Given he’s getting older and is in a much more physically demanding league that he was able to make 23 games is more than expected. He can still pick a pass, but the main issue is those 23 games he’s played in more running is asked of his teammates.

It seems to me that Rodriguez didn’t think, in his head, that he was fit to play for Everton in the last few weeks he was here, but a week later, home in Colombia, he thought, in his head, he was fit enough to play for his country. I don’t think he was telling lies, but it looks like he wanted to play for his country more than the club who pays his wages, and I understand he has a big affinity to his country but hardly any to Everton, that doesn’t seem right to me.

I have read your contributions on this thread with my usual mixture of amusement , frustration , and wondering whether you are a WUM , or overly obsessed.
The guy came here on a free , and everyone knows that he is genuinely world class ,when fit.
Give your head a wobble , and compare the respective value for money of him , compared to some of the dross that we have (who may have played more games , and many who haven't !), who we have actually paid top money for in transfer fees , and then tell me he isn't worth it.
"A free signing".

Lol.

On signing, Rodriguez said: “I’m a winner… a real winner. I like to win things and I’m convinced we can have a great season,” James told evertontv.

“I know we have a very talented squad, full of top players, and, I think, with the additions we’re making during this transfer window, it’s going to make us even stronger.
“Now it is down to me to perform well, to play well, to bring my A -game to this club and bring that winning mentality, to make sure everyone in the Club believes we can win trophies."

lol

10th, and he bales out before the end of the season.

BS v Reality.
