Any new player of note will have an impact. The point with James is that it's claimed that he'll have a disproportionate impact due to his legion of social media followers.

I'm asking that the claim be substantiated by more than anecdotes.

Is there any substantial figures to back this up? I asked about tangible stuff like shirt sales. Not unreasonable I dont think. So far: zip.

I gave you more than anecdotes. If you didnt read them, thats not my problem.

Its beyond doubt that having James on our playing staff raises the profile of the club, by association. @Sassy Colombian became a fan, bought a James shirt, (officially) and dragged her husband to the Florida cup games. Actual evidence. The traffic on here from Columbia rose significantly. Actual evidence.

Now, how/if the club actually cash in on that is a moot point, but the association is there.
I believe he brought a 6000% increase in sales in the region.

Do we make money off shirt sales? There was an article somewhere the other day that suggested United basically make next to nothing off the Ronaldo shirts.

Suppose it will vary depending on the specific agreement.

Hahahahahaha amazing

article in the Athletic this morning, James' wages has now gone up!!!

I quote: "North of £200k a week"

This is the same writers that this time last year were saying it was around the £120k mark. Incredible scenes.

@LouReedwalkonthewildside

This is the whole play to push him out, and turn fans against him.

The media love, and I mean LOVE Rafael...he is a red hero, media wont have a bad word to say...and will always push storeis that help him.

Also, the article just shows again how utterly hopeless we are

"Burnley's valuation of McNeil was higher than Everton's"

I can imagine the shock Brands had when he found out Burnley, an established Premier League club, wouldn't accept £20m for their only decent player.

Mate it's all being briefed by the club too - and now Rafael's side 100%. As soon as they wanted James off the books (and let's get it right he'd have been happy to leave) they've been briefing that his wage is £200k. Now it's suddenly gone above that! I'm sure that will be to get the fans on-side when they inevitably pay Galatasaray £100k a week to take him next week, even though we have Gordon in reserve.

This article is by the Everton writers so it's more balanced than the Joyce piece, definitely. But still, an absolute shambles.

I said it in the summer, I really, really don't like how Everton Football Club is run atm.

The thing that I am intrigued to see is that Ancelotti at times seemed to set up defensively and rely on James for our attacking play. Benitez has already changed things and in doing so would take that pressure off him through a system that seems more suited to attacking football. I think we will see an improvement when he plays.
